I think that makeup inventory videos are one of my favorites to watch, but only when the person has a smaller size collection and has the panner mindset. In 2016 I had about the same amount of eyeshadow that you have now, it was when I started my no buy, now I only have 6 palettes left and I'm still working through them!
Same! I really appreciate seeing how that person appreciates each product that they have. Lately I've been buying very few new makeup items and I find it has made me very content with what I already have.
Seven years wow. But I'm kinda in that mindset now. I've probably got around 100 palettes, and sixty something lip things and other ridiculous numbers. I'm giving myself 3.5 years to get that down to something reasonable and then I'll let myself get something new for my 40th birthday. Probably.
Wow that's amazing! For 2024, I am doing a low buy for palettes and a pan the palette challenge because I realized how many eyeshadow palettes I have that I don't utilize. It has been fun to challenge myself and grow with it so far. I made a Pinterest board of eyeshadow palettes I would want to buy and am just letting them sit there for now, instead of impulse-purchasing them
I love that you’re counting individual pans of face products. It’s never made sense to me to have different categories for things that are used on the face in the same way.
If you do want to declutter some highlighters, a way too look at it is to imagine your dream highlighter collection from what you already have. A warm toned, a cool, a pink, a cream, a liquid maybe. Then choose your favorites of those from what you have and declutter the rest. I feel like trying to declutter by looking at every product and thinking of if you could possibly want to use it sometime just leads to keeping more than will bring joy. Imagine you go for highlighter, and your collection is the sigma, the anastasia, the uoma, the auric, and the melt foil, for example. I just feel like that is such a dream and would still last forever. The full flatlay of all of your products is so beautiful either way though
I’ve also been inventorying my makeup for the past two years! I keep a list of the individual products, so that if I hate it and declutter it, I don’t accidentally buy it again…this is especially helpful for shades of lipsticks I don’t like. ❤❤
Just here to say that I rarely use my powder highlighters but I couldn’t declutter or pass them on to a new home either. So I used a spoolie and finely milled them into a powder. Mixed into my lotion/body oil. Boom a perfect way to use those highlights and actually enjoy them. I’ll be using up 3 this year.
I do that too! I feel like such thrifty queen when I'm going for the summer glow...it is awesome not being tempted by any body shimmer or glow oil products!
I love how your makeup collection is manageable, I am working on having a more minimal makeup collection maybe I will get there someday lol. I loved the video and your eyeshadow is so pretty
These are fun and very interesting to watch. I think you have done really well at whittling down your collection and being realistic too. I did this so I could make my goals for the year and the only goals I haven't hit are in blush powder and foundation. I think the blush and foundation will be goals hit by year end but the powder isn't a big deal as I have 2 thats it. I feel you on lipliners - I have 2 and the goal is to get to half on each of them I am half way there. I also track my samples at this point all I have is foundation and concealer samples and perfume samples so slowly working my way through those and the ones I like I make a note of and the rest I just go through. Keep it up this is probably motivating for you as well as us.
I think that decluttering is not always the best solution. Unless the product is new/barely used and you can give it to friends/family, declutter often means throwing away. In this case I feel that it’s better if these 20 highlighters sit in your drawer, even if you use some of them once a year. It’s still a one more use, rather than ending up in a landfill.
I also count each pan as one in my inventory, except for eyeshadow palette. I monitor the value of my beauty stash though, and if I, one day, finish one eyeshadow in a palette, the value of the palette will go down.
To get through some of my highlighters, I've crushed them up into fine powder and added to a pump type lotion (usually a Hempz) so then I have a pretty shimmer lotion but also getting use of so many high lights I have!
