I'm pretty sure most makeup artists in india purposely cake on a foundation 3-5 shades lighter than one's skin, especially if they're darker skinned to begin with, is because the majority of the population there thinks only fair skin= beautiful. Even if it looks ashy and gray, better than being dark in their minds. I remember when I had to wear foundation for the first time in my life for a recital because the harsh lights washes out people if you don't have makeup on and my mom told me foundation is used to look whiter. I didn't know any better because I was only in grade 5 at the time, didn't know a single thing about makeup, not even what kohl/eyeliner was let alone foundation lol, so she put some shade of beige on my tan skin and to this day i always cringe looking back at those pictures. I looked like a powdered donut compared to the rest of my friends 😂

Sam S EXACTLY! And do you see those stupid High-end bridal makeup artists?? They COMPLETELY change the bride into someone else with Sooo much foundation and makeup!! Abd literally one shade goes for all. They all look like wearing the same mask with different bodies. I hate how the make up industry is just feeding into the colour discrimination and obsession of fair skin.

So true I'm south indian all my mum wants me to do is make my skin look lighter. literally in my primary skl photos I look like someone face painted my face white bcos my mum put so much fair and lovely on my face. I literally used to think I could never be pretty bcos I had dark skin

phew... this video was so damn relieving ... and yea, I'm a person who is never confident about using a blush. i have wheatish skin tone and all those blogs about 'perfect blush tones for wheatish/dark skin' has been always confusing me always as if all th e beautiful colors are meant only for fair skin tones 😕

I really love the way you address the brown Indian girl issues.. I have always struggled to get a proper guidance about makeup.. my mom is 3 shades lighter than me and she used to give me her BB cc creams which used to make me look grey.. and definitely that was considered ok.. but now I am well aware of the fact that Brown Is Beautiful..! All thanks to few youtubers like you who have instilled confidence in many indian girls of color ♥️
