Mr Brown, please don’t feel like you have to apologize for your filming or anything else! You and Miss Lori are amazing people that touch so many hearts and have the ability to teach the old ways that the younger people so need to learn and us olders need to see again. It brings back memories and makes me want to continue on my quest to keep the old ways alive. God bless you both and I hope you have a great weekend. 👩‍🌾💚 🧹

I have a couple of straw brooms that my precious grandmother made for me that are at least 50 years old. She also gathered sticks and made a rake to clean the yard. She lived in sandy land and it was so pretty when she finished raking her yard.

What a wonderful topic for a video! I love learning the old methods of making and doing things as it makes me feel closer to my ancestors and the lives that they lived. I have seen handmade brooms and pot scrubbers (and cake testers) many years ago in a catalog but raising young children at the time didn't leave money in the budget for such a luxury. Now you have me thinking I could make one of my own once I locate the materials. I'd love to find some sage brush on my parent's old farm that was sold when they passed on. I know it would tickle my dad to think I could do this. Going to check in with the new owners next trip north. Thank you for the inspiration and the visit. I've enjoyed your video immensely. May the Lord continue to bless you and Miss Lori with good health and weather.

Thank you so much. I came upon this video while looking for something else, but sure don't you find the stuff you need. I'm a writer. I've been working on a story with a man named Daniel. It's set in the late 1870s in South Dakota. Already wrote a bunch of it, but none of it's ever going to see the light of day. This is the time I'm getting to know him and his people. I'm sure they needed to sweep, and knowing how to make them a broom is thanks to you.

That was a great demonstration of making a broom. We sure take the simplest of things for granted. I have a knew appreciation of buying a broom and a pot scrubber at the dollar store. It definitely makes sense to prepare for hard times. God bless you and Miss Lori.

My grandmother never owned a store bought broom. She made broom sage brooms very similar to this. When first made they were longer and fuller than this one. She may have trimmed the sweeping end somewhat, but she just held the bundle and thumped the cut end on a flat surface to get them all lined up. She ran her string all the way from the cut end where she started for about 12 inches or so and tied it off only once. No loop for hanging because the broom stood in a corner of the back porch or behind the kitchen door when not in use. She would use one until it got too short and small on the end to sweep well and then make a new one. I tried hard but could never make one as neat and tightly tied as she did. She also used the same method to make a broom from slender tree or bush limbs to sweep the back yard. It sounds ungainly but was very effective at raking the bare dirt. Her yard was as clean and neat as her house. I sorely miss my Granny.

Thank you Mr. Brown for showing us how to make a brush broom. Fascinating but does look like quite a bit of 'work' to tie it all together. Yes, I could see the bit of what looked like 'fluff' coming off the broom end when you 'beat' it. And the pot scrubber was an added bonus! It was so relaxing sitting out with you in the sun and watching you make these items while listening to the birds singing and chirping in background. Really enjoyed this video. Blessing to you & Ms. Lori from the west coast of Canada.
