First of all I tend to agree on folks not appreciating craftsmanship, I get it from friends and some family often. I’m loving the build and the way you go about doing things, too many creators want to impress folks with complicated CAD drawings that they sit down with first. You work like I do straight out of your head, you have the vision of the project and build it. That is a craftsman. Keep it up, oh by the way check your mail, I sent you a little something for helping me out on a project.

Re-wire that motor to 220v. Double the voltage, half the current. It will run better, easier and your electric bill will be less. Your tag on the motor shows close to 18 amp draw on 110v and 9amp draw on 220v

Hi Mr Pete I have a little suggestion for you thinking of your two springs at the bottom of the tube i will put a washer the same diameter of the springs between them because with the vibration they will screw one with another and you will loose belt tension. This is my two cents comment :)

It's the same thing every weekend for me. I'm using my G.I. bill to take a gunsmithing course from an accredited university. Each week I must write four four-hundred word essays pertaining to various gun-related topics. I dread writing these papers because I work full-time, and writing the papers takes up most of my time every weekend. You see, I use Mr. Pete's videos as an excuse to delay writing my papers when I wake up. When he uploads a new video I somehow justify sitting in my chair, drinking four cups of coffee, and watching two hours of new/old machining videos, when I should be typing a paper. Such is life. Thanks Mr. Pete for being such a likeable and informative man.

I didn't notice the furnace at all. But if it remains a problem, get a mic mixer, point a mic at the spite furnace, wired out of phase with your mic. You should be able to knock the sound down a lot like that. You can adjust the audio level of the spite mic to just match the level of furnace noise you hear, and it's gone-ish. Too much fun.
@mrpete222
@mrpete222 5 лет назад
That sounds like a lot more work and expense then just turning the darn thing off
@stxrynn
@stxrynn 5 лет назад
That all depends upon your relationship with She Who Must Be Obeyed. If you are on good terms, you can turn it off. But don't forget too many times to turn it back on, or the mixer idea may start to look like the better option!!! Keep warm up there, Santa Pete. I'm thinking about you in the great white north while I'm laying by the pool...trying to figure out how to keep the dog from digging trip holes all over the yard....

Boy you certainly work faster after a cup of coffee! LOL I am not positive but if that switch is from NAPA and is for a 12 volt system it might be too light. The 50 amp x 12 volts is only 600 watts. If your motor draws 15 amps at 120 volts you would need a switch that would be rated at minimum of 1800 watts.
@greaser5691
@greaser5691 5 лет назад
Fred, This is what I was thinking. We see Echlin branded gear in the antipodes intended for automotive use so the switch may not be rated for mains voltage, so you may very well be correct. However, I will take you to task in that the "watts" are not important here... Ratings with switches are: 1: the contact current rating. 2: the contact voltage rating. Exceeding either value is a show-stopper. That is: you could have a good-for-240V switch rated for 10A (= 2400W) , but at 12V that same switch is STILL only good for 10A (120W)... Note, my comment is still not completely accurate, AC and DC have different interruption ratings, a switch might be good for 'interrupting a circuit' at 120VAC but only good for 32V DC (random numbers!) but these are often marked with AC & DC ratings). Greetings from Adelaide, South Australia.
@greaser5691
@greaser5691 5 лет назад
@Barry Manilowa Thanks for that (note: I hold an electronic engineering qualification) but we're moving off-topic. You ARE correct, cost shortcuts can (and will) be taken in a manufacturing contexts to minimise the PLU/SKU count, but best ratings will be shown - it would be commercial suicide to do otherwise. In design and implementation, though, you can only be sure of what is actually written on the part (or datasheet or whatever), and if you exceed those you are asking for trouble. Specific to the video reference, integrated indicators do limit these ratings, but that wasn't the point of Fred's comment (I think :) )

So, if you lose a spring, a clip or other small items, in your old age you have learned not to bother looking for it, just get another one. My experience as well. BUT - have you noticed that the moment you stop looking for it (or get another one), the original lost item turns up almost immediately! Law of nature - or is it Murphy's law? I forget...

With regards to the switch: if you work with power supplies that are split phase compatible be sure to use a double pole switch on them because some will energize the 0VDC output to phase when they are turned off. I had a close call with this and I always install double pole switches when I can to add another layer of protection.

Thanks Mr. Pete! This is an incredibly useful project, every shop needs a good belt sander and this is far better then the imports you can buy. Not to mention the satisfaction of doing it yourself. You know by now no one in your audience ever complains about your videos being too long! ;o) No, didn't hear your furnace turn on, you have a quiet one. But as cold as you get out in the midwest it's understandable if we did hear it. Just like hearing a fire engine here in California as our state burns down all around us. :(

Mr. Pete, Love the North Side Pride shirt! I told my wife yesterday when something drops to the floor it disappears. This was after I dropped a 1/4 inch nut and just simply reached in the tray for another one. She asked me why I didn’t pick up the one I dropped. I told her I’d find it or not when I swept the floor. Things do take an amazing disappearing act when dropped or place below eye level. Another reason I don’t look for things dropped is it just ain’t that easy to get down to floor level these days and twice as hard to get vertical again. That’s the main reason I buy the bulk packages of nuts and washers and other small items often used.

A lot of tedious work I see. I find the torpedo levels aren’t worth a plug nickel in my trade of plumbing and pipefitting. Now I see why you use round stock instead of square, which would be problematic with round springs and collars in/on the riser support .Good job

Your definition of an expert has a restaurant equivalent. It seems the better restaurants are always never near your home. You have to travel to the other side of town to get "good" food. That is my opinion.

I’m trying hard to figure out why anyone would give this video a thumbs down, unless it was the local media outlet.

@@mrpete222 I don't normally go in for this sort of competition, but when in Rome, plus pure luck. I always enjoy watching your videos, thank you for your continued entertainment and knowledge.

Since you take your moniker from the Bible, may I state something else from the Bible, '...you can't preach in your home town... Thanks for the video.
