WHO IS THIS LEGEND?!

I'm not sure if it's his immense knowledge, his passion, his 'daft' sense of humour, his logical way of explaining things, his genuine personality or his years of experience that makes Mr Agar such a good teacher. Most probably a combination of everything. But I bet there's one thing he doesn't know, and that's the amount of people all round the world that he has helped. Where I live in Lancashire England there are no courses for adults to specifically learn developing and darkroom printing. Mr Agar has taught me so much, and he's always there if I want a refresher. From this little corner of the UK, a big thank you.

This entire series of darkroom videos has been the most helpful in learning the darkroom on my own. Most everything I have done is self taught because the facility that I print in is run by people who aren't nearly as enthusiastic as this guy. But Prof. Agar has taught me so much! I finally nailed a show print that I have been working for a long time! I hope to have my own darkroom in my home someday! :) Thanks again for these videos! Does Prof Agar have a web portfolio??

Such an enjoyable series of videos! There are many here on youtube that cover darkroom techniques but none like these. After years of wishing I had my own darkroom, I'm finally putting my own together and these are immensely helpful.

yeah our schools need teachers like this. men and women that are still excited and interested by the subjects they are teaching. that way they can pads on the like and interest for the subject

Professor Agar says: Enlarging Lenses match the film format so 35mm film needs a 50mm lens, medium format films needs an 80mm lens and large format film needs at least a 135mm lens. Hope this helps!! Good luck with your photography!

These are the best darkroom tutorials on RU-vid by far! Maybe your professor would like to show how to do more advanced dodging and burning or show the different ways to burn in the edges. Split grade printing would be very nice to see as well. Thanks for posting!!!

Sounds like he is talking about the "Zone System" created by Ansel Adams. One of the best books I have came across on photographic control is "The Practical Zone System" by Chris Johnson. I had a copy given to me in 1997 by my darkroom/photography instructor at a local community college.

This series of working in darkroom is something of the most pleasant I've ever seen on RU-vid. It simply pure fun to follow his explanations. Yeah. More, please 😍🤘😃

Hello Trangent.Sorry to bother you with unrelated question. What is your experience of how quickly positive developer exhausts. I print now 30x40 and 40x50 fiber and it goes rather quick (sorry for the metric measures). Am I doing sthg wrong? After like 10 prints of 30x40 it goes really slow. Any thoughts on that? Many thanks in advance.

When you lay the negatives down on the paper, is the shiny side up? Do you need to use any special type of glass to hold the negatives down on the paper. I just ordered my photo chemicals and getting ready to make my first 4x5 contact print.

Since your video is very helpful and informative, I felt free to ask you about a problem I am facing. I recently got a Seagull DF-200A. Most Seagull cameras has the same features as Milonta. I used a Fuji 200/36 film. After I had my film developed from a nearby professional studio, there were no images on my film. It is just blank and transparent. Is there anything wrong with my camera or was it a damaged film? The shutter of my Seagull works fine but there is a little bit of fungus in the lens and some dusts on the mirror. The camera works fine mechanically but I just could not figure out the problem that I had to face with the film development. I set the aperture to 8 and shutter speed to 125 during day and 60 during night. It was the first and the last time I developed a film that I used in my Seagull. Please help me out Sir and let me know all the possible errors that may occur with my camera or film. I will be glad to appreciate your kindness. Thank You.

I love how you still reply to posts on your Channel even a week ago. :D Photography is my Fave Subject and hobby, I still have my own Dark Room, Just an Enlarger, Measuring Jug, Paint Trays, Film Tub and Dark Bag. Its very basic. lol I use to finish processing my images and just stick the wet prints to the tiles in the bathroom, most of them stayed in place until I took them, some would fall. I have now got a real Safe Light, but I did at some point use a Red Lamp (Light Bulb for non electritions) in the socket of my bedroom's light fitting. (Need to make sure its completely red/painted in heat resistant red paint, but it may have some effect on exposure. ie greying whites). Photography doesn't haft to be too expensive, get your gear a little at a time and experiment as you go Peoples. :D I hope Film Photography last forever. Thank you for your videos. Neil. :D

After 45+ years of shooting film, I finally made my first contact prints! It took me a while because the first prints were all black. I discovered a problem with my "safe light" (8w red LED bulb at a distance of 8 ft). What kind of safe light is recommended and how far should it be from the working area? Thanks
