Just a heads up, both pieces that you polished will detach from the system with little effort. Also, compressed air builds up static electricity. Use two to three second bursts to avoid this.

Definitely worth tearing it down for a deep clean, thermal paste replacement and also installing custom firmware to keep the temperature low. This is my favourite model and trust me when I say they like to die especially without maintenance. Lovely polishing I've never seen someone bring it back to such a like new finish, keep up the good work.

A thing you can do is hold down the disc eject button while turning on the power switch at the back of the console while it is plugged in. The fan will ramp up very high and blow out dust in the heatsink.

Wonder how a wet standing with like 600-1000-1500-2000 papers and after that polish it. That would make it brand new if you have a little deeper scratches

I still have a backwards compatible PS3 as well which is the 60 GB original launch model. I ordered it off of Amazon back in 2018 since I've had it now for almost six years already, and so far it still works fine too which is really great since I haven't had the YLOD or anything on it yet. I still really miss the PS2 backwards compatibility feature though on the PS3 and I wish Sony would have kept that feature for all models of the PS3 even though every model of the PS3 is still backwards compatible with PS1 games anyway. I also personally like when PS2 games are being played on the PS3 better since they seem to play somewhat better on the PS3 than they did on the PS2, especially since the PS3 also supports HDMI and the graphics in the games seem a lot better when the PS3 is connected to the TV via HDMI which helps upscale the graphics that way. I also wish the PS4 and PS5 consoles would have been fully backwards compatible too even though the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games which is at least better than nothing, especially since the PS4 didn't even have native backwards compatibility at all.

@@EndlessGamingHorizons-e5q It's been a while since the last time I've used my 60 GB PS3 system, but as far as I know though, it still seems to work fine for the time being since I haven't gotten the YLOD on it yet or anything which is really great since I've been very lucky so far. I mainly only got that particular model of the PS3 though to have just for the PS2 backwards compatibility since PS2 games seem to play better on the PS3 that way, especially with the PS3 connected to an HDTV too via HDMI which helps upscale the graphics in the older games. I also have an 80 GB PS3 system too with the 4 USB ports and the partial PS2 backwards compatibility and it worked for me for at least a few years until it finally stopped reading discs even though the console itself still seems to power on and off just fine so far.

Hi, I want to cosmetically restore my old PS3 fat console and I have seen many videos showing the polishing of the scratches. I have a different problem though. The chromed linings look as if they have gathered rust and I was wondering if you know how to restore that specific part of the ps3. Any comment will be welcome. Thank you in advance.

I've done the same thing with my orbital polisher on mine (mines a non-backwards compatible CECHG01). I basically have it looking really good, however, it's not perfect. You can look and still see micro-scratches whenever sunlight shines on the surface. It's very frustrating to me. It makes me wish I would've had it when it was brand new. I got it used. If I would have had it from the beginning, it would not have these scratches.
@theconsolecollector
@theconsolecollector 11 месяцев назад
You could try a deeper cut polish to get the mirror like finish. If that doesn't work you could try a fine grit wet sand paper then another polish. Black is a difficult color to polish but it can be done and even eliminate those fine micro scratches in the light
@autolife2785
@autolife2785 11 месяцев назад
@theconsolecollector which deeper cut polish would you recommend? I've used Mothers Polishes, Nu-Finish car polish, and I recently have been using Turtle Wax Acrylic Black Wax which is used on black car paint to restore appearance. It's super clean, and has a mirror like reflection, it's just you can't hide the micro-scratches that are hidden. This PS3 was in pretty good condition when I got it. It hadn't been played since 2010 prior to me getting it in 2022. It looks really nice, but like I said, not 100% perfect
@theconsolecollector
@theconsolecollector 11 месяцев назад
I recommend the 3m line of automotive polishes. Mothers is not a great polish, I work in the auto industry and 3m is definitely one of the best polishes out there the have a deep cut polish called "extra cut" which I used here and it took out all the scratches. I filled the extra cut step with the standard rubbing compound polish, then the swirl mark remover then the fine cut specifically make doe dark colored vehicles
@autolife2785
@autolife2785 11 месяцев назад
@theconsolecollector oh okay thanks. I'll have to look into 3M then. I was a car detailer years ago at a dealership (I still detail my own cars now as a hobby). I've waxed and polished cars with my orbital polisher, but never really did too much with paint correction. I'll try out 3M
@forza8719
@forza8719 6 месяцев назад
@@autolife2785hey brother if you want to get 100% of the scratches out you have to sand and hone first! No disrespect to OP he did a great job but there are still noticeable micro scratches on his unit. You have to sand with wet sand paper low number like 250-300 then hone all the way up to 1000 maybe even 3000. I think 3000 is better. Then polishing is easiest part just use your preferred product and buff till it’s perfect. Hope this helps!

It's just super annoying. I've done the same with the first one I had, and it never fixed the YLOD. I just got the CECHG01 (non-backwards compatible fat) instead. I'm much happier with it. Way quieter, never overheats and operates smoothly.

Hi I just bought a PS3 model CECHA01. I bought the Novus plastic polish system that has 3 bottles for 3 steps, one for heavy scratches, one for light scratches and the finishing polish. I don't have the machine you used, but I bought some polishing things that attach to a drill. Do you have any advice for me on this method? Any thoughts will be extremely helpful. Thank -You for the video and you take care my friend.

I have four of these two of which are CECHA01 model and my other two are a CECHB01 and CECHE01 model. I have used Nu finish scratch doctor but doing it by hand is a pain so I really need to get a buffer though something small and cheap and not the size in this video. Honestly though mine look perfectly fine for me but my problem is some deeper I guess nicks or basically small hole in them on top. It's hard to see but they are there and would like to find a way to fill them in without leaving a trace after. The E01os only one that doesn't have the nicks in it but still
@theconsolecollector

Polishing by hand it hard! Props to you for trying. A little bit of wet sanding can remove some of the smaller scratches
@aleksandersaski5387
@aleksandersaski5387 Год назад
What if you treated it with some heat gun? Could it melt the very surface of the plastic and therefore remove scratches?
@theconsolecollector
@theconsolecollector Год назад
That's a great idea. I work with many different plastics at my daily job and this type of plastic used in the ps3 shells are a thermoset type of plastic and doesn't flow very well. Thermoplastic types of plastic reflow with heat and would definitely work.
