I finally have graduated, so I'm hoping to get a video out a week for at least a little while. Also let me know if you liked the video, I might try to expand into some other games for some more very unintended ideas
😂😂😂😂 I get what he’s doing but it just isn’t even possible in this game it only works in games that are based off logic and random chance this game is barely random chance 😅
13:23 There actually is, and in fact, you actually have used it by accident without even realizing it! The Inferno Ring, while itself cannot see camo, the flaming ball that it sometimes shoots off actually can! No idea why it can, but it can! Hope this helps!
Never before in my life I have seen something as transcendent as Bloons TD videogames series. I believe that desire to pop bloons lies deep in the foundations of human behaviour and is that exact thing that led to the creation of civilization of man. Everything that I have ever expirienced, from my studies in Sidney Sussex College, through becoming puritan, fighting a war, ruling entirety of British Isles for five years, to even faking my own death in 1658, made me realise that popping bloons is what every human ultimately ought to do. But I guess building a calculator work aswell.
Thank you, Oliver Cromwell. I remember studying your rule in history class but to be honest I barely remember it. Thank you for reminding me of your existence
Have you tried using regrow bloons? The current approach always decreases the number of bloon layers available and is therefore unable to create a NOT gate, but regrows should solve that issue. Importantly, you should be able to get some fan, since popping a high-level regrow spawns two children. My guess is maybe zebras as 1’s and blacks as 0’s will work. One idea for an AND gate I have with zebras and blacks is to try to freeze the top path and then shoot across the top to the bottom path. The bottom path would then be the output. The idea is that a zebra on top would absorb the damage, while a black would be frozen and not be in place to block the damage. I think that this doesn’t quite work out, but there might be something to the general idea
It spawns 2 children but both children stay on the same track so they'll both go to the same destination, this doesn't actually let you fan out to multiple inputs in other gates
this is cool and all, but i can do 1+1 in my head, come back when it does something actually impressive, like 1+1+1 🙄 EDIT: just finished watching the vid, and I am blown away, I retract all previous negative sentiment
Remember when typewriters first came out, people said "Why do I need a typewriter? I can just hand write books." I dunno when the last time you saw a typewriter and in my 30 years alive I've never seen a handwritten book. That's why engineers get paid $100K+ a year to add "1 + 1" That calculator you no doubt used in highschool is a lot more convenient than hand writing and counting on your fingers, no? and I doubt you know how to use an abacus.
I'm always impressed by how easy you make the whole problem solving look. I always try to "think with you" while watching a video and I have to say I usually can't come to the solutions you come up with. Keep it up
Maybe get somebody to make a mod for you do change the amount of paths. Or actually, I believe that people have done some custom maps before the map editor was out, so you could also try that method. Anyways, this is a crazy video, I never would have thought to create logic gates in BTD6
the "no monkey zone" means you wont be able to place monkeys there, doesnt effect line of sight or projectile throwing as far as i know. you can check some map editor tutorials for more info on each type of object and how to edit them
Even though it isn't as big as your other calculators, it shows really well how to understand logic gates and how you can make them out of pretty much anything. You just gotta define what a 1 and a 0 is.
Maybe try using regrow bloons? They might help with the problem of having to send one piece of data across multiple paths, as all regrow bloons stronger then black regrow (including black regrow bloons) can duplicate (because when they're popped they pop into 2 bloons, which when regrow, regenrate back to their original layer)
14:02 I've been trying to learn how to fix graphics cards recently and this reminded me of how they make zig-zags with traces on PCBs to transmit data using differential pairs (for example, PCI Express). Funny how a silly monkey game made into a logic gate simulator and actual real sophisticated hardware can have simillar problems and solutions :) Great video!
definitely expected btd6 from an electrical engineering gamer channel. but really i appreceate what you do and i look up to you, you're the reason i want to be an engineer.
There might be a better way of representing your bits, namely as a sequence of balloons on a path. If you could somehow make the gates less timing dependent it would be possible to loop the carry bit back through the original full-adder together with the next bit.
As someone who works with systems like this on a regular basis due to my studies seeing this being replicated in BTD6 is absolutely stunning how you use mechanics of the game to achieve a Calculator
Idk if this helps but there IS a tower that can pop camo without seeing them. 2xx sub can pop camo bloons only when they are in range of a tower that can see camo. The sub itself cannot see or pop camo in its range without a seeing eye monkey.
you might be able to do some shenanigans where two seeking shuriken ninjas can help pop balloons to avoid having to snipe with dart monkeys. that as well as playing with damage ranges so you can have a monkey who does enough damage to hit a green down to a red but doesnt get the opportunity to pop any lower.
it's actually pretty easy to make a calculator for Addition in this game. place the number of balloons of the first term you want to add, then the number of balloons of the other, then place down a dart monkey and count how many pops happen. its as shrimple as that
this is such a good project to show how logic gates work. Staring at a whiteboard during a beginning Digital systems class can sometimes be very hard to understand. This video to see the data flow in real time is really cool. Thank you.
The inconsistency with the darts going or not going through the zones was because projectiles don't start from the center point of the circle, but rather some distance away based on the animations of the tower Since dart monkeys have a sort of "reach" or dartling gunners have barrels that their darts come from, the end of those is what determines where the dart starts at. For example, the dart monkey's projectile starts right at the end of his hand when thrown, so the dart was passing the zone because the starting point of the dart (AKA the end of his hand) was passing the zone. This is why when you had the dart monkeys further back from the zone, the starting point was before the zone and the dart was being blocked by it
its so cool how he can just think of this stuff right. like he could be playing snake an be like "damn, I could totally make a warp drive out of this".
Man, i'm waiting till this guy says "ok, today i'm going to run Doom in People Playground using only game instruments and mechanisms" and won't be even too surprised at all...
btw you can download mods and modded map editor allows for as many paths as you want, but of course these will work only for other people with mods that download it manually if you want it to be shared
"Bloons is a game simply about monkeys popping balloons, so i thought it would be perfect to make a calculator"... Ah yes, a true engineer mind, love it
13:17 There IS one instance of this but I don't think they'd work for this purpose since the Spike Factory, whose projectiles pop Camo Bloons but does not provide camo detection via Advanced Intel to a Monkey Sub, does not "attack" Bloons. Anyway yeah I didn't understand this video sry
You just summoned the whole bloons playerbase lol 13:24 Not sure if it's patched, but middle path wizard's fireball splash damage does that Also ice monkey has cryo cannon bottom path for non-circular attack, if that's worth anything
You could have made the and gate with a sniper that 1 shots zebras and used zebras... then if 1 zebra gets through it multiplies into four bloon, y8u could duplicate bloons using regrows
This might have been what you were doing in a different way but you could maybe try something where there is a path where a strong balloon can go through but a weak one can not. If the strong one is sent that represents an input of 1 and it will survive. Then it can go back to take hits for a weaker balloon wich represents adding 1. then the protected balloon can take the hits it needs to when it comes out. It would be very time dependant though so idk if it would be possible. Also you may be able to push beyond 1s and 0s to have more of a amount of layers to show numbers. For example first send a strong balloon to represent the starting value. Example: green = 3 then send on another path whatever combination of balloons like minus 2 is a blue and minus 1 is a red or two reds represens minus 2. Then if the timing is right have a monkey throw a dart at the red and blue balloons that travels across the map and hits the green one. Then it comes out and you can either just look at the color of that balloon to determine the output value or try to use that balloon to block hits to make something binary.
I'm surprised you didn't use regrow bloons, using the regrow property, the blue bloon layer will regenerate and can be used again for any number of xor gates
honestly as someone who has played this game for as long as it exists, This is both so cursed. so confusing, so impressive, and can be improved in so many ways
Here's an idea couldn't you use the monkey sub with the Intel upgrade and then use let's say a ninja monkey with camo balloons but have the ninjas vision a bit more cut off as the camos go through the ninjas vision the sub should be able to shoot it , not sure I'd that makes sense but just a thought
Mr. Reid. I just realized something that you could try for content. Back around 2012, I played the hell out of Halo: Reach's Forge mode, and I remember being able to craft mechanical contraptions on it. It would be neat to see you use Halo: Reach's Forge to make motors and other machines.
