Hi Denis from he UK, i have just finished watching the coffee table video. For the moment i liked this jig you were using, so much more simple than many seen on RU-vid and very versatile. When i finish reorganising my Garage i might try and make the coffee table- i have som 200 year old Honey Pine and it is almost as hard as Oak.

@HookedonWood

Hi Raju, The bandsaw is the N4400. I like it, it cuts very nice, and you ask an important question if I had one before. Yes, I do, but this was a very cheap one. I doubt a long time if I would invest in a better one, because I worked a lot with MDF, plywood and did not use the bandsaw that much. But now I am working more with solid wood and I use it more and more. But, I do not have a good comparison, so everything is better than I had. The block planer is from Veritas.

@HookedonWood
@HookedonWood 3 года назад

Hi Dennis, what's the use of domino's or dowels in the corners of the legs if you make a cut right through them for the different colour wood?
@HookedonWood
@HookedonWood 3 года назад
Hi Antoine, I still think the connection is strong enough after adding this extra wood. That will increase the stability also. The domino's are thicker than the strip of wood. With the dowels you are probably right, but I did the only for the video. That said, those are a great help to stabilize the legs while clamping it.

Hey Dennis, question on the saw... I just purchased the 4HP Harvey Alpha, and I was starting to get it setup I noticed a few things that have me questioning my decision. It was advertised as having a 230v 16 amp motor, but the motor it came with is listed as a 15 amp motor. The manual states that it should be on a 30 amp circuit, but the plug on the saw is only rated for 20 amp, and the main power cable is only rated for 15 amp. While I technically could wire this to a 30 amp circuit, it would be an electric code violation here in the states. I also noticed that the motor has a build date of 2009 manufactured by a company I've never heard of with absolutely no information available online regarding the model number. Any one of these items by themselves isn't a huge deal, but all together it has me questioning this purchase, and I haven't even turned this thing on yet. I was wondering if you noticed any inconsistancies or warning flags with your saw when you purchased it? It almost seems like they grabbed the wrong wiring kit, ran out of motors and ended up buying the cheapest old "new" inventory someone had sitting on a shelf collecting dust, just to get it shipped. I have an email in to Harvey, but if there answers/solutions aren't satisfactory I'm afraid I'm going to have to go through the hassle of packing this thing up and sending it back.

Hi Nunya, I looked at the motor today and I think it is from 2017 - 2. I bought it in 2018, so that would be nice. But the stamp says 17-02! It is made by GW electric. I am not familiar with them, but you can see if yours come from the same firm. In the end, I am happy with my table saw. But I also see some small flaws that would not been happend if the quality was more consistent. My fence is not very nice bent at 90 degrees at some point. It all works, but it is not razor sharp how it is produced. I have a tinted coating, but after two years it start to disappear. I thought it would be a bit thicker coated. But, further it is stable, I like the looks and it helped me till now. But when my new workbench is ready I will buy another table saw. I will go for a Felder. Much more expansive, but also better fit and finish. And it is a panel saw and I think that has more benefits. Hope I helped you a bit with this information. Dennis

@@HookedonWood Thanks! I kicked the questions I had about the motor and wiring over to a relative who's an electrical engineer and he gave it his blessing. Felder makes some nice quipment. Awesome from a very kind man For what it's worth, your jig that you used to taper the wood, is warped underneath. This could throw the taper off. I like it that you use very quality machinery like the table saw, joiner/planer and bandsaw. This rewards with better woodwork. Thanks for sharing with us your innate talents kind Sir. 'Til next time you show us yet other "gems".

Hi Pat, very sharp noticing. That is why you see me with another platform from plywood later in the video. You describe exactly the reason why I did that:-)

Love your videos Dennis, great work! Just be carefull with the background music, you'd be amazed how quickly a copyright claim can cause issues with your video;)

Thanks Roffen, I normally shut down the music when I made a shot and I want to let hear some noise of the equipment I use. But I also see a lot of video's where people do not seem to care. So, this is my first video I just let it go. I like to work with music and it is annoying to stop it every time you shoot something. But perhaps it is better to continue doing it, or to wear ear pots.
