Making a Dustpan from Scrap

Mainly using up some old scrap metal here. I am also experimenting with using carriage bolts as rivets and working around defects in the material. Bending sheet metal does not always require expensive metal brakes. A somewhat satisfactory result can be achieved using scrap pieces of heavy flat stock and a hammer.
Yes i know the welds look like chickens**t. Thats what you get when trying to stick weld on 1 mm thick coated sheet metal with gaps in the joints. It doesn't need to be high strength, just fused together.

Nice touch to wrap the steel around holding the handle in place.

I was originally just going to weld the handle to itself, but the hole in the flat stock gave me the idea for the wrap.

I like that workbench top...beat all to pieces, because it actually gets used a LOT.

Have you ever considered a small 110v wire feed welder would make these small projects easier
@FinnCrafted
@FinnCrafted 8 лет назад
Absolutely. But i try to make do with what i have, maybe someday i will get a MIG welder.
@thebrokenbone

if you can get a small cylinder for argon and a torch you can setup a scratch start tig rig...
@FinnCrafted
@FinnCrafted 8 лет назад
Scratch TIG would be an alternative as my welder is equipped for that. But the cheapest 10 liter argon cylinders+the TIG torch together would cost as much as a cheap flux core MIG welder over here.

Sweet! But dang so much cool improvising and handwork, but then use a welder, which I don’t have! 😜 I guess tabs and rivets would work on those corners.

I was surprised you didn't heat up the bolts/rivets to form them more easily. Any reason you didn't heat them?
@FinnCrafted
@FinnCrafted 7 лет назад
No reason expending the gas when smaller diameter mild bolts/rivets can be riveted cold for projects like this. Takes a little longer of course.

It's very nice until you painted it black I mean the pan looked great black but the handle was very nice raw :) but great job :)

These are these, go buy one plastic 2€, and throw it away broken in a year. Make one within a week, and your great great great grandkids say to their kids, "Yeah, your relative made it 300 years ago. Rauhaa.

I once found an old dustpan and it actually turned out my long gone grandfather had made it. This is a rough copy inspired by his work.
