I stumbled upon this by accident. It was suggested on my home page and I thought it looked interesting. But … I got so much more than I expected. I think its because he gets to live out his absolute dream everyday with very few compromise. Its all so authentic. The more and more I analyze the world, authenticity is the most inspirational quality that a human can possess. All of this is just my interpretation of course.

I was really inspired by your son, seeing the flipbook from the opposite angle as you, and seeing this yellow trail that was happening and questioning whether your whole intention could be flipped upside down and flipped the flipbook backwards to enjoy that even more than front. I think to be really creative. We have to stop assuming that our intentions when creating art or even correct. Things have to be able to change, and we have to be able to find things from a new perspective and value that potentially more than what we thought we were setting out to do.,

I’m really impressed about how you still went ahead with this even though you knew there was a chance the glass would break and all your hard work wouldn’t give the desired result. Maybe there’s a lesson in here for artists to take risks even if it may not work out the way you want. Definitely something I struggle with.

Very inspirational, Andy. I saw the runtime and expected a crazy step-by-step breakdown of a charming, quirky balloon man animation. What I was not expecting was to take an existential journey. I've been through a lot of ups and downs these past two0 years. Currently, I am in a rehab facility, on week 3 post-amputation of my left leg. It was the inevitable conclusion of those two years. And your "fragile balloon man" story really hit home for me. We can always bounce back, even when things get so down we cannot imagine them possibly getting any worse. I have spent the last three weeks pushing myself as hard as I can, because when I go home, I'm all that I have. No family, no close friends. Thank you for the inspiration, Andy. And well done on the flipbook. It looked amazing.

I love that you even conceptualized such a project. That you actually got it off the drawing board is just crazy. If you ever had the gumption or interest, I'd love for someone to replicate and demonstrate the 5,200 year old animation painted on a clay cup unearthed in Iran. I think it's an astonishing artifact, and you seem like the man to bring it to a wide audience. The oldest verifiable animation on Earth!

This is a masterpiece. Every "imperfection" captured here functioned as a blessing, which makes this whole short film all the more special (calling it a "video" feels inadequate). Thank you for being compassionate, wise and trusting enough to include your children in such a delicate passion project - making for one of my favourite moments as a unique perspective was pointed out. @6:20 this shot is so good. because as it breaks you can see the projected future movements of the balloon man (on the next pages). you can see his destiny even has he fails to reach it, because of the breakage. maybe in some way then, he does reach it, in/through this prediction. there is some achievement within/despite the failure. great art, thanks

I love everything about this. The concept, the storytelling, the editing, the animation itself. Thank you for making this! I randomly got this in my recommended a few weeks back and really enjoyed it, but don't usually comment on RU-vid. However, for whatever reason a thought about this popped into my head while having a shower yesterday haha, and I figured I would leave it here in case it is useful for you or another artist: if you have access to a 3D printer, maybe you could design some sort of compliant hinge that the glass panels slot into, allowing you to bend the pages further without them breaking. You could make the hinge stiff enough that the glass still has to bend a fair bit to preserve the flipbook feel. Although I think the flipbook shattering as you flip through it fits the message beautifully.

A touching story in a fragile art. Great video Andy! I felt sad in the end when those glass pages were breaking, but I must admit it looked beautiful at the same time in slow motion.
