ESTY: www.etsy.com/shop/GomersWorks... hours of hard work it's finished! This is a Germanic / Viking fighting seax I recently finished, largest knife / dagger I have made! The blade is forged from 5160 (scrap leaf spring steel), went through hardening twice as well as normalizing to unify the grain structure of the steel even more. The handle is walnut I cut down last year, with 3 micarta spacers and 2 leather spacers and I put a few coats of paste wax on the handle to give it that shine. The final sharpness of the blade was done on a leather strop so it is SHAVING sharp! The engraving on the blade was etched and it's written elder futhorc (futhark) runes, used between the 2nd and 8th century, and found in modern day Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark primarily. If you like the video and want to see more, take a look at my channel where I have many more similar videos and more random videos.

Very nice build! Those Harbor Freight one inch sanders are great for finishing and stropping! I use one regularly and have for over 15 years! I just bought another one so I don't have to change belts as often! Again, a great build and a beautiful, usable Seax!

Thank you very much! Yea, people really underestimate harbor freight tools, well some are not very good but this little sander has been an absolute workhorse for me! Couldn't be happier. Thanks again!

Same, my great grandparents moved from Germany before the Depression, but they gave me this one real nice seax style hunting knife that is now part of my will, people may find us "creepy" for liking knives but they just don't know how much of a historical heritage piece tools are.

nice knife , me i ask u sir what type of oil u put in handle knife for protection and i hear that the engine car oil is good for wood handle is that right ? and how much time we should let the handle in oil ? and thx for the video
@xRoSkii
@xRoSkii 7 лет назад
I put paste wax on the handle. I would never put car oil on wood for a knife handle. If anything, cooking oil, which still isn't a good choice. Use paste wax, boiled linseed oil, tung or danish oil. For sure not car oil.

Lovely blade, great Anglo Saxon Seax, but the handle is much shorter than it should be
@Norilius
@Norilius 5 лет назад
how can you tell it's Anglo-Saxon? for The Anglo-saxons weren't the only ones who used a Sax..
@AngloSaxon1
@AngloSaxon1 5 лет назад
@@Norilius no there were continental seaxes of course, but the broken back style of Seax was Anglo Saxon, they "Invented the broken back shape and even used this shape with their Longseax. This is well known among the Seax community and those of us who collect seax.
@Norilius
@Norilius 5 лет назад
@@AngloSaxon1 Hmm i'm reading about Continental seaxes and describing many variations of Germanic long seaxes and i quote '' The back either curves gently, or with a sharp angle towards the tip'' sharp angle towards the tip isn't it basically broken back ?
@AngloSaxon1
@AngloSaxon1 5 лет назад
Arnor the broken back seax is an Anglo Saxon blade, there may be some Seax that could look similar but it is purely an Anglo Saxon knife. They were even called the people of the knife. The broken back style of Seax was invented by the Anglo Saxons. There is nothing more to say.
