Making a Glide Bait, Design and Build

Engineered Angler Lures

I rarely fish with glide baits but I know they can be a challenge to build correctly. The action of a glide bait is really simple, they just glide when you tug the line. But if you mess up the symmetry or the weight and balance they will either only glide to one side, pull only straight, or turn hard to one side. In this video we go through the design and making of a glide bait lure, and I cover the engineering that goes into making it work.

We are moving and all my shop is packed up. For now, I have to live vicariously thru you and others until I can get to new house/shop. Hopefully my wife lets me go out and play in garage 😀

Good stuff. I watched your lil jump frog video a couple times and decided to build my own. I’m in Missouri, we do t have much for snake head and I understand these style lures are used a lot for those. I’m a bass fisherman for the most part. So I built an almost exact copy of your magnetic hook frog, I used the 5/0 double frog hook and let me tell you, all painted and cleared, this thing slays these swamp donkeys! First cast in the shade under a big maple on our local lake and POW! The blowup was insane. My hookset was off and I lost him. Once I worked out the hookset timing, it was on. In an hour I landed 7 largemouth bass and two slab bluegill. So much fun. I’ll be making more for sure, thanks!

Nice job as always, I appreciate that you quantify and qualify the characteristics of the lure by design and do not leave it up to trial and error to achieve the desired results. Stay safe, look forward to your videos in the future.

I paint jointed and belt swim/glide baits. I have to say that the belt baits action is so much more smooth and natural looking. What I intend to make most of are belt connected baits. Waiting on the resin now. Thanks for sharing

Nice to hear you interpretation of the glidebait name. I always have a hard time finding out what would be the correct term/name for a bait I made. It seems that there is a lot of overlapping between the terms swimbait, glidebait, jerkbait, crankbait, stickbait etc. Well now I'll be using your interpretation for the glide bait :D Great tutorial by the way

I've been toying with the idea of making something similar with a piece of ratchet strap or a few 300 pound PE lines. Nice to learn from you before I make my attempt.
