Thank you for Watching!!! Watch as I make a handmade Glue chipped silver mirror from start to finish! Please subscribe!!! ↓↓↓↓instagram↓↓↓↓ / glasssignandco
I always wanted to try my hand at chipped glass signs. Enen bought a book in the 80s when I was a showcard writer but once I saw the equipment involved and the thought of cut fingers. Noting that you have a bandaid on your finger I decided to give it a miss. It trully is an art that needs to come back to our signage. Some of the photos that I have of popcorn vending machines with this art are just gorgeous.
what kind of equipment did you balk at, just the sandblaster and air compressor? sure, these guys have a booth or box that controls heat and humidity so they can get a piece done in a couple of days, but eventually the glue will pop even if you left it out. beyond that it's basic tools aside from a glass cutter and breaker thing. or the vinyl cutter/plotter? that would be great to have, but to get a really nice one you're talking a couple of bucks. the one my trophy/t-shirt shop had when i owned it was about $3K, but that was pro stuff and used on a daily basis. you don't need a fancy one, though, however i always advise ppl to stay away from hobby stuff like cricuts. still, you're basically just making a stencil with the vinyl, you could do that by hand if you really wanted. i used to use clear shelving stuff i got at the grocery store and cut things out with an exacto knife, then put armour etch on it. i worked at an auto glass factory for four years and i was afraid of cutting myself at first. respect the materials and take reasonable safety precautions and you should be okay. you could take a file and sandpaper to the edges if you wanted (although glass with eat that stuff up fast) if you didn't want to use a power tool. alternately, just tape the edges.
This is a great process to watch. Thanks for sharing the steps involved. It is my hope to start hand painting signs and eventually work up to this type of work.
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Ernesto Matthias Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hello, I congratulate you on your work, I have seen all the videos, I wanted to know how you make the glass break once the glue is applied, just let it dry or do you apply some heat or air? and how thick is the glass? thank you very much and excellent work
I used to hand letter store fronts back in the 70s and I just saw this and I am totally interested in learning this....anyone know a good jumping off start or what books and vids that would be useful....sure would appreciate a response..thanks
Edgar Solis Hi Edgar, I didn't receive a reply but I'm pretty sure it's been chemically mirrored, a process called 'angel gilding'. I'm surprised that wasn't shown in this video as it's really interesting to watch.
Yes it would be chemically done. Check out David A Smith on Instagram, he just did a series on glue chipping and if you look threw his feed you can see him silvering a panel.
Hello.!! First of all, your art is marvelous, it's too shocking, I want to ask that liquid rubber that generates the background texture, what is it? ' what is your denomination? ' it is very effective !!, luck and much success.!
@Hughes SignCo I completely understand. I'm sure you weren't trying to be rude and I wasn't either. Beautiful work, the time, patience, materials and tools always cost a lot. I work with leather and some people don't understand the effort that goes into making something by hand. I just didn't want to come off as one of them. Likes to you and your company.
All that u do is done with plastic stencils.. There are no artisan implications on it. And I can see the differences between handmade and just digital stencil... u should improve this way.
You're literally that narcissistic to tell a grown ass man who owns his own shop, has his well earned abundance of clientele and who is clearly, very highly trained and very highly skilled at his trade, to change his way and put goggles on to satiate YOU? That's HILARIOUS!! 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 What's next for you? Offering him suggestions on how he can better do his job??!! 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
@@jordesign I think I went a tad overboard actually. I just get so frustrated with RU-vid know it alls and especially narcissistic people who believe their way is the best way. But telling a craftsman to change the way they craft, hell no. That shit is just insane to me.
@@coreyflannagin3698 sure. instead of using glue, put some double-sided tape on the back of the name plate. plates should adhere to the frame basically permanently under normal conditions unless you pry it off. the only reason to use the glue is to stick the little nails in if it's a metal frame, but i've always been of the opinion that unless the nails or screws are functional then it's simply over-indulgent.
@@manlymcstud8588 My apologies, I thought you were referring to the hide glue. I thought the 3M was an alternative for that. Lol. I obviously don't know anything.
@@coreyflannagin3698 no worries. i wish i was further along in my other projects so i could look into doing this, i have a lot of ideas... just not the time, money, or space.
