@@susanvdo7009 You can also knit these hats by hand using the same technique with plain circular looms you can pick up at most craft stores like Michaels! Instead of a hand crank you use a tool to lift the loops off each of the pegs yourself, but it still only takes me about 2-3h to make a hat!

I see a lot of people saying they would rather do it by hand. I agree! But machine knitting helps if you're doing a craft show or need to make a large amount of hats/scarves etc. It's a quicker way to make money for some people. I think as a knitter you should be open to your options so you can make the best product. Make sure whatever you make is made with love. That's the key. No matter how you make your projects, they're hand made. They're not factory made. They're special no matter how you make it.

Sims bruh you gotta understand. Making a pair of socks takes 10 hours knitting by hand. I timed myself doing it... Also why would you pay more for this than any old factory hat? If I sold my socks I'd have to sell them at about a hundred dollars per pair to make minimum wage. Calling this and hand knitting the same makes hand knitters have to cut their wages to get things sold.... It's sad!

I wish for one for my birthday. I hand knit and crochet a lot, but not very fast. I thought it could be nice when my children loose/forget a hat at school that I could make one quick for the nest day. Also my kids grows very fast right now, (7 and 11 years old) so with my crafting speed the clothes I can make for them by hand would be to small at the time I finish it. So fingers crossed that my family gift me this nice knitting machine.

Funny you should say that with a name like SIMS..in the sims artist community people are totally immature over a piece of cheese they created for the original Sims game back in 2001 .Mod the Sims ganging up on The Sims Resource ..The Sims Resource ganging up on the Pirates etc..then you have the copyright freaks who think every new pattern or new creation has already been created and hence owned by someone somewhere never mind how much creativity is stiffled..and dont you dare share this or that without permission credit bla bla bla lots of trouble ..i understand people bickering about politics or philosophy but i dont get why there is so much of it in our creative hobby world..everyones opinion is apparently the all to end all ..hobbies are for relaxing and communing with those of similar artistic leanings imo

I have been knitting and crocheting over 40 years now, and there's a place for this kind of knitting also. No, it's not the garbage can. This machine can make several items in the time it takes to make one, completely by hand. If you're selling at flea markets, or etsy, this will build up your stock fast. I'd use it for certain applications, because it does look really easy, and I need easy right now, lol!

I love all the comments about how this is cheating for whatever reason. I also love the statement that the sewing machine is essentially the same as this. It is. The art that the belly-aching biddies are trying to defend still exists. It will not die. If anything, it has been placed in a lofty position by machine work like this. Also, give it time, I am willing to bet that machines like this will be tools used like the good old Singer to create great one-of-a-kind works, even pieces that have intricate, and to the artist, intimate details. It is a marvelous machine. The video was incredible. And the hat, while it may not have had century old details passed through the ancient veins of knitting artists through their ages, was beautiful and still creative. Also, I am sure that someone who just wants their head to not freeze in winter would love the hat, and may be keen on buying it as it is not covered in the details and patterns that the whining crowd is quick to defend as they may wear it in an area that may spoil such a hat. Time and place. Also, I would still want this tool even though I am an art and details person for the fact I have many family members who are young parents up north, and this would make a quick hat to send for their children. And other reasons.
@marigeobrien
@marigeobrien 6 лет назад
If you want a quick hat for the grand kids that offers no skill or talent, go to Walmart. You can buy a LOT of hats there for $220.00. (That's the cost of this machine on Amazon.) Also, making a hat by crocheting or knitting it only takes about 3-4 hours. So, you're not really saving that much time.

Can I get hats made from hand dyed yarn from walmart? Can I get hats made from handspun fiber blends from walmart? Can I get hats that fit the exact color pattern of a handwoven scarf? @@marigeobrien I have always wanted to learn how to knit but my disability (I have Cerebral palsy) prevents me from using knitting needles, but I can use a crank. My mom was a knitter/Crocheter and I would love to do the same and a machine like this would make it possible for me to make things for friends, family and maybe as a business. So because I can't knit with my hands Ishould not want to make my own items, plus the shit at walmart is exactly that , shit and probably made in sweat shops in Veitnam by child labour, I had a wooden one as a child as my mother wanted me to learn to knit but knew that my hand-eye coordination prevented it so I had a wooden loom and made scarves and loved spending time with her as she knit in the evening making blankets or hats, It is a great memory for me now that she is gone.

Modern machines use a less bulky yarn/thread so it doesn't feel bulky when wearing the item, socks especially. Plus, I watched a sock knitting machine and I did't see her add any elastic/spandex product into the sock so I can bet they fall down in a short time which would drive me nuts.

There is a dvd included in the package but as I'd already seen this one I just parked my tablet under the machine. Wow....so many salty knitters here. I'm a knitter, I take a long time to knit things for myself and loved ones, not business. I do buy a lot of knitted things, though (because its just easier that way). And at the end of the day, speaking as a consumer? No, I wouldn't buy something hand knitted over a machine knitted item over 'value'. No, I wouldn't pay extra for a beanie made by hand. No, I wouldn't feel bad about it either, nor would I go 'wow I'm cheated' if someone lied about it in the bio and sold me something machine knitted instead of hand knitted, so long as the price was reasonable. No, I would not even prefer one over the other in any circumstance. All that would matter is the price. I pay for a knitted product, not emotion or labor. Knit what you want to knit however you want to knit it, but don't gripe if people do it differently than you, or make money off of it.
@MissMustang98
@MissMustang98 4 года назад
Who Dunnit I appreciate your opinion. I have found the same in that the #1 factor for most people is price. I have over 100 intricate, heavy, hand crocheted scarves made from premium yarns, which I cannot sell because I cannot compete with the $5 machine knitted scarves at Wal-Mart. I often get “WOW! Those are really pretty.” Then, we get to the “how much” ($50-$75) discussion and people immediately wince and walk on. As long as we are all used to paying for dirt cheap items made overseas, it’s going to be almost impossible to sell premium, hand-made items.
@danielconnor8516
@danielconnor8516 4 года назад
Yeah this is a funny debate. On one hand, we want cheap stuff because some people cannot afford the more expensive ones; But on the other hand, by saturating the market with cheap stuff (fully mass produced and cheap materials), we will be dealing with the market not producing high quality products anymore. This what happened to most durable brands. Like Doc Martens used to make shoes that lasts almost a life time, but now their shoes are worned out after 2-3 years of use.

I understand your point but that way of thinking is not a fair one. Many things were made from cheap labor and it should be taken into consideration when buying. You don’t want to buy from a company that doesn’t pay their worker fair wage

I'm going to say why I bought an Addi Express Kingsize machine: I am making hats for a homeless charity and blankets for a pet charity. I was using a standard round loom and it was taking so long to do just one item, that I got one of these machines to help me make more, so more people and animals benefit from it. I found the DVD that came with it to be useless. I couldn't follow it very easily and I kept having a problem with dropped stitches. I came onto youtube and found this video first. I followed it and have made a hat, with no dropped stitches and although the tension isn't brilliant, it's a hat that someone will be able to use when they're sitting on the streets of the City, waiting to be let into the hostel at night. I've not tried a flat panel on it yet, but that's going to be my next thing to have a go at. This video is great for starters to Addi machines, it makes it less stressful trying to figure out parts of using the machine!

You and crochet crowd have the best visuals on this machine. I’ve accumulated so much yarn and not enough time to knit by hand, that’s why I’m looking at the addi. Not sure how long I can stand there cranking it, but worth a try if I can make more hats for charity 🧣🧤

I can't help but to laugh at all the "where can I buy this machine at" comments. Do like I did, freaking google it...I'll even help you with that...highlight the name of the machine up there under the video...right click...click copy...open a new tab...paste into the search bar...hit enter. Takes all of 5 damn seconds already. And btw, it is freaking expensive! Ranging from $85 to over $200, so if you want to purchase it, I sure hope you're going to mass produce to recoup the loss and start making a profit. There I did the work for you. Geez! I'm not a knitter, I crochet, but I sat through the entire video to see the finished product. Lovely hat, love your personality!

May I make a suggestion? When your length starts getting long, instead of pulling it out to the side and having to constantly unwind it, just pull it up from the middle and fold it into itself as the length grows.

Can't we all just knit a long? So I am on my deck and I use the brother kh260/910. ON the couch with my needles. In the car with my Addi....do we have to choose a side? If you want to keep up the culture then talk to the people who are selling their creations at a less than favorable price. THEY are taking down the culture of the skills. By the way, machine knitting is not as easy as you think. Very difficult to articulate. Students earn degrees in designing with Knitting Machines. They also have classes and designing in Hand Knitting.

Just taken delivery of my first ever Addi machine. I have never used one before and am feeling nervous that I won’t be able to use it more than for just making hats. I don’t want to give up - but I couldn’t make head nor tail of the instruction manual and it’s patterns. The only instructions I will follow are your instructions as seeing it done is better than following written instructions I think! Also, it seems a lot depends on what type of yarn you get as to eventual size of project. So I already purchased some yarn (DK in the UK where I live) and am hoping its going to be ok. I would love to eventually make a jumper, but working out measurements and translating these into actual knitted size seems a bit daunting at the moment. If you have made a video on making a sweater for an adult, I would be very keen to see it, as your instructions are so clear! Thank you x

I have a knitting machine, I try to knit and want to so badly that I don't give up and keep trying. Here is my question to all you hand knitter's... Do you spin your own yarn or buy yarn that is mass produced? I spin my own yarn that I harvest from my own animals that I go out every day morning and night to feed and clean up. So all I'm saying is we all have our own vice. My machine knit products will never hold a candle to your hand knit products however if you are using commercial yarn that's another story.

Some “machine knits” are as creative as hand knits. Look for a book called “Creative Machine Knitting” by Linda Mendelssohn. Do some research into fiber artists from the 1970s and 1980s. They produced incredible designs on their knitting machines. I knit lace shawls and sweaters on my knitting machine which turn out far better than anything I could have hand knit. Fairisle sweaters are also better. Finally, many designs in stockinette stitch in a hand knitting pattern books were knit on knitting machines. The designer knits a swatch to get the hand knitting gauge. Think about it. Designers get paid for the end product, not the process it takes to produce the design,

Hi, You - and the responders - are "KNIT PICKING".. With all due respect - I just want to explain ... But this is economy 101 - basics that most people on the planet do not understand! This is exactly what Henry Ford did for the car industry - automation with BETTER products as a result! And the CONSUMERS/BUYERS are NOT INTERESTED in how much time you spent on the product - they want to get THE BEST for LEAST! Unless your HANDMADE product is EXTREMELY UNIQUE - not available off a loom - then you have no chance competing! Sorry, but these are the COLD FACTS! Any product is judged by the consumer for it UTILITY not how much work was put into it! EXAMPLE == Let's say two people are making pies - they both mix the dry ingredients with water, make the crust and filling and bake it for 45 minutes. Each spends the same time and labor! But only ONE of them succeeds in selling their product! WHY? Because the other person was making MUD PIES! They have no USE or value in comparison the first one! And even if the mud-pies LOOK very good, and the REAL PIES are REAL LOUSY, the REAL ONES will sell better! They have better UTILITY per dollar spent! Basically, what you are asking for, is MINIMUM WAGE per hour of work, and not for the UTILITY of your PRODUCT! And that is why SOCIALISM never works!
@knitasauruswrecks9817
@knitasauruswrecks9817 9 лет назад
Al Catraz With all due respect, automation and mass production does not necessarily equal better products. Better is defined by people's motivation to buy. People that request my hand knitted goods, do so because I am able to make unique items of high quality, not just because they are looking to stick any old thing on their head.

CraftyGirl I am glad I have the full use of my hands and enjoy the challenge of lace patterns, but many of the ladies in our knitting group are content to knit stockinette for hours and hours. Some have arthritis in their hands so they cannot manipulate the needles to do difficult stitches and intarsia, for instance. Bless them! They enjoy it and the people they knit for are thankful.

I bought one of these a couple years ago from Nancy's Notions and it never worked properly. A total mess. These machines are mostly plastic with a few parts of metal. The will knit stockinette only (no ribbing) and are very picky about the type of yarn you use. They're not cheap either. Before investing in one, go to a store and see if you would be able to use one properly. BTW, I am experienced machine knitter (4 circular sock machines and 3 flatbed knitting machines) and thought this one would add some capabilities. It does not.
