I have been thinking a lot about the sketchbook cake. I think it's been one of my favourites. I would love to see an eye palette cake. As the dust spill would be awesome to see. Glittery cleverness.
I don't think there's any way to make the reflection convincing enough to trick you into thinking it's an actual mirror, I'm not sure what edible thing reflects as well as a mirror
For the thickness of the chocolate, try filling and then tipping all the excess out on to some parchment paper or something. The chocolate clings to the walls, but drips out the middle. Might not work quite as well for a greased mold, or such a large one, but TRY IT
I've tried to do that. When the mould is greased, the chocolate doesnt stick to the walls of the mould and comes right out. But if you let it set, the sides solidify and then its easier to pour out the excess chocolate
I love your point of view on making mistakes. I can't tell you how many things I haven't done because I'm so afraid of making mistakes & failing. I'm a major perfectionist & knowing I'll make a mistake is an immediate turn off for me & I don't even try. But I love what you said & I'm going to work on it. Thanks for the life tip while amazing us yet again with your artistry 🥰
Hey Nat. I've got experience with resin casting and mold making. I think if you want to try to get your chocolate thinner what you may want to do is try to simulate rotocasting. This would involve taking your mold and then pouring in Suuuuuuuper hot modelling chocolate so that you can rotate your mold around and coat it evenly on the inside with your chocolate as it sets. I'm just not super familiar with the setup time of your chocolate. It'd need to stay runny long enough that it doesn't slow down and get thick while you're rotating your mold around to coat the inside of it. You can do multiple passes with the rotary casting if you need to though to build up thickness. IF you do a little research on it, maybe it'll help you out a bit. A new technique to save you time carving and scraping might be good! Food for thought. (Pun intended)
Sideserf: My goal is for you too see the cake that i made today and say “i cant believe its a cake” Dude that is literally *all* our reactions to the the cakes we see you make
I 100% agree! After I moved I learned just how much I enjoy and am excited by trying things that make me nervous. It's helped me to step out of my comfort zone and learn some amazing things and live some incredible experiences I wouldn't have otherwise.
When Natalie was talking about mistakes, there was one thing in my mind. TEST SCORES!!!! I think people forget that in school, tests are for your teachers to understand where you're at. If you got a lower test score than you expected/wanted, its a chance for you to learn and grow from that test. Tests are not there to kill your determination if you get a lower score than you wanted, they are there to spur you on so next time you can both aim higher and learn from your mistakes and improve. Low test scores are also humbling, and I for one know that when they happen, it sure is a wake up call. Keep going and work as hard as you can, you will make it.
I just wanted to thank you for what you said about mistakes. I started a new job a few months ago, and I was always so nervous, especially about messing up. But the ironic thing is that was what was causing me to mess up! I just said f it one day, and said that I'll just be a clown. And that is where I found my success. It was my way of dissociating from each call, bring a little laughter out, share a moment with those that I'm on the phone with, and I grew more comfortable. It's not that I stopped caring at all, it was that I let go of my overthinking and worry of what people thought about me calling them out of the blue.
I've been loving your approach to videos recently of telling stories instead of explaining how you made the cake. Because these are not REALLY tutorial videos, they are just amazing cool videos, and you have such interesting stories and you tell them in a really fun way 🧡
I've actually been thinking a lot about this and it never gets out of my mind I would really love to see you making a Hotdogs hyperrealistic cake with ketchup and mustard 😋
I just started a new job and I’m moving so slow right now and struggling to keep up, and I think you have a healthy perspective about making mistakes, and thanks for reminding me that you have to start from 0 before getting anywhere!
maybe you should tap out the chocolate after u pour it into the mould to make a thinner shell. if you’re too scared that it would be too thin, you should let it set partially and tap out the remaining chocolate before it sets completely hard. but amazing cake tho!
Your videos have improved so much since I found your channel a year ago, it's so intriguing how you find interesting topics to talk about every video, and you're so much more comfortable with speaking and being on screen!
This cake was so good great job! 👏 just a Tiny bit of feedback: the white spray-bit looks a little fake because the white paint isn’t thick enough. This is no hate just my opinion. Obviously it’s all amazing and no one is perfect I’m just being picky lol 😂 love your channel tho
Regarding chocolate thickness, I often see chocolate moulds done by chilling the mould, pouring chocolate in so everything is covered, then pouring out the excess. Is this something that can be done with your pouring mould?
That's for normal chocolate, she's actually done that sort of thing for her party cups cake. What she used here and normally uses is modeling chocolate which you can't pour, it's the consistency more or less of fondant or clay so it wouldn't have the same effect
I was thinking about that too, but gelatin moulds are pretty flimsy. They tear pretty easily (learned the hard way), but at least it's simple to melt them back down and remake the mould. Painting on multiple layers until you reach the desired thickness might be the better way to go. If I was trying to figure it out, I definitely would have tried the pouring method first. You'd probably have to place a cooling rack over it before flipping, since the gelatin would want to flop and the key to an even coating is keeping the whole thing level while it's inverted.
One of the best pieces of advice I've been given is "go out there and fail". Failing once and getting to try again can be liberating. You're no longer scared, it's just motivating. At least, for university exams. Probably not a good idea if you're a heart surgeon.
Hi I have a cake idea you might enjoy making! Do you know those flytraps that you hang from the ceiling and are yellow and sticky? it might not fit a lot of cake in it if you make it but it will be really cool!!! Love your vids!! 💕💕
I love you sharing your mistakes and growth! I think the reason you completely glossed over greasing the mold would be because even though _logically_ you knew to do it, the process was already so different from what your normally do that it didn't even register. It happens all the time!
Hi- please make a tropical fruit platter cake- or maybe just some tropical fruit. Many of these have incredible shapes and colours that would look amazing- and you’d get to try crazy fruit for the reference! I’m thinking Rambutan, mangosteen, kiwano melon, salak fruit. These have an amazing range of colours and textures!
i have not in a while have seen and heard such a positive video about making art and the mistakes and fears that come with it over time. im smiling so much this really lifted my heart.. 🙏♥️ im currently in a position where i look for places to study art at, something thats been part of my life since forever. hearing your words put down some of the worries ive been having (even for just applying). its the first video ive watched from you but with this video only i am already so grateful to watch you :) ps.: the cake looks lovely, and im somebody who would definitely love that amount of chocolate hehe
I love how you talked about this, I’m still younge so I don’t know what I love alot in life yet. Watching you do what you love and talk about it helps me know that I will find what I love and watching you talk about how you go about making mistakes helps me with that In my life. your so inspiring and I love the fact that you can record yourself doing what you love, it’s amazing. Keep up the good work and most importantly have fun with your passion!
I've been binge-watching your videos this past week (so naturally I've also been eating loads of cake), so when I realised this was a new video I got so excited!
Possible solution to the thickness of the chocolate, make the mold with the bottle facing upside down so you can pour out excess chocolate and have a nice thin layer of chocolate surrounding the cake, (think of those videos making chocolate coke bottles with weird candy in them) just an honest suggestion/thought because it seems so difficult to carve out the chocolate once it comes out of the mold!
The fake it till you make it advice is really helpful. As an overly anxious person I don't know if the anxiety increases as you grow older or disappears. I hope it's the latter as it was for you. Also this cake is really super realistic, best part is the top white thingy, I love how the paint is not very clean in the lines and it gives it a more realistic look.
With the pour mold, pour the hot/warm chocolate in and then dump it out so that it turns into more of a shell. You can do this multiple times until you get the thickness that you are looking for. If that doesn't work with what you're using, you can scoop it out when it's still warm/soft/not completely set up.
mistakes are how we learn if you’re smart you learn from both your mistakes and the ones others make the sad thing is that so many people don’t learn from them
I'm always impressed with your skills, it's amazing the amount of effort you put. I hope in the future you can continue do more.I like watching it through the short. 😍
For the molded bottle, I suggest doing it just like you would do any other filled chocolate: fill the mold, tap it a few times to get out any trapped air, and then turn it upside down and pour the excess chocolate out.
Youre amazing and SO ADORABLE I can totally hear you doing voice over for animation or something too your just so cheery and expressive and I ❤️ it! Thank you for all you share. Ps She's pretty easy on the eyes too yall 😏
To get the thickness you're looking for poor your chocolate in swirl it around and the mold and then dump it out and keep, repeating that until you can the thickness you're looking for! Hopefully that helps.. BTW your cakes are awesome!
Does anyone else ever get an ad for one of her videos and watch it part way through waiting for her to tell you how she made a cake that looks like a product but it turns out it was just an ad? Because that's how good she's made them to make me not realize an ad
i have a solo singing perfomance in 2 days and your story about that whole tv show just inspired me to get rid of that fear of making a fool of myself on the stage thnx so much
for your question if i passed on something because I was scared YES. the best example is last year, I went to a theme park and my brother told me to go on a ride with a loop.i rejected it out of fear but a few months later I decided to go on an even crazier ride that had 4 loops and I realized it was a waist to be scared that one time. now I love loops.
Hey Natalie, I hope you don't mind but normally one can pour out the excess chocolate and it will leave a thin layer inside. Depending on how thick the shell ends up you may have to build up a couple layers by letting the first one cool first and repeating the process, or drizzling and smoothing over a couple of small layers. Unless of course the carving of the block of chocolate was in fact the intention, then please don't mind me.
Girl you have nailed it!! I'm shocked you don't have more paid sponsorships because I feel like there's so much opportunity there. When you get done making her eye shadow 🔽 pallet cake could please make me a tiara cake with lots of diamonds and sparkles? Thanks!!😘
holycannoli Nat 🤯🤩 , I can't tell the difference between the bottle and the cake. in fact if you placed them side by side, it's gonna be one of those which is cake moments. but best part of this vid is you message to us all. thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience, because it got to me gurl right here 💘
when my little girl went to the crosscountry she was realy nervous but you know what she did it any way and she is still going round the house saying i am glad i did it
