In this second video of the series I demonstrate a particular way in which we can paint with latex that once dried becomes a solid rubber feature permanently adhered to the surface of the corsets rubber sheeting as well as show a method in which we can incorporate the busk.
please check out the link for many of my manuals on making latex garments where I go much further and deeper into the techniques of working with rubber and latex as well as drafting patterns specifically for latex garments

What kind of paintures used? Liquid latex with colour or another way? Awesome your art painting!

in the case for this piece of work I used around 10% or under acrylic paint mixed with 90% or over liquid latex. With acrylic I try not to go above 10% as this can then begin to effect the rubber quality, making it feel more plastic like. This is okay for looser fits of garments or more rigid types such as the corset here if one is okay with the plastic like feel but for stretch garments it undermines the stretch capacity of the rubber. One can also combine the liquid latex with ones own pigments - this is actually the best way. The most common way, however, is poster paint so a pigment in a starch base solution. Again we take care not to exceed to much the 10% mix as the water in the poster paint can undermine the vulcanisation process and make the rubber brittle. The 10% area is just a guide as each colour varies depending on the level of opacity one is after. One can push things higher or use less of course for more transparent results.

Lovely corset! What is the function of the rubberized fabric between the two layers of rubber sheet? Is it just to eliminate the stretch of the latex and make the corset stiffer?

that's exactly right. A pure latex corset is okay for people who already have a slimmer figure and the corset simply enhances their natural shape but it kind of defeats the purpose for reducing the waist size and redistributing the weight elsewhere on the body if the fabric can stretch. In this way the corset seen in this tutorial is closer to more conventional corsets except for the rubber exterior. If one doesn't require the rubber to be stabilised and so still would like it to stretch then one does not need the rubberised fabric part. A fabric waistband is still included, however, to assist in drawing in the waist.

@@catastacharisma Thanks for the reply! I wonder if working with a sheet of thicker rubber latex would have a similar stabilizing/cinching effect? I only very recently started to look into latex crafting, it's such an interesting medium in that it can be used in both sheet and liquid form. I love your Silver Alien creation too... so etherial and interesting to see in a mundane setting like the mall, interacting with mere mortals! Very cool :)

@@ashb8318 So, if I recall the thickness of the rubber sheeting was 1.05mm. so even without the rubberised fabric that would make the corset over 2mm thick. 1.05-2mm is the most common thickness used for corsets. Some double the thickness by laminating further. While this does make a more resilient to stretching rubber it is still surprisingly stretchy that one can stretch it through pushing ones belly out alone. Thank you for the compliments on the Silver Alien, that was a project of passion

Hey catasta!! Can you please elaborate on the webbing glue you used to glue the busks to the latex? As i can't seem to find any correct translation for my language for that glue i have no idea on what to look for near my city, thank you so much!!

and what about the flat busk? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Did you make it yourself? Thank you!!

The product I use is called Spray Glue Industrial Strength - Fast Tack by Stuk Trade. Applications include; laying carpets, upholstery, bonding foam, rubber, metal, basically sticking anything to another surface so long as one of those surfaces is porous. I get mine from a local discount store, the kind of place that sells everything from fishing tackle to grannies nightgowns, to pots of paint.
