I’ve noticed how crappy wallets are at stores now. The everyday big batch, off-shore made ones. I appreciate quality and the workmanship. Every wallet is not created equal

Johnny L Gulledge thank you! They recommend the Max is about 10oz. In this video I had 4 layers of 3oz underneath it (12oz) and it did really well. But that would be the absolute max it could take. None of my wallets go any thicker than that, so that’s this makes a great machine for that kind of stuff. But I will be picking up a harness stitcher soon for bigger projects 👌🏼

Hi, I really like your videos and I want to try to make a few wallets like this for me and as presents for my best friends. The design that I have in mind for myself is a little bit different and I would try to make the rest custom made. It would really help me out if you told me how thick the leather you’re using is (preferably in milimeters, because I have no clue what ounces are) and recomend some beginner tools and where to buy them. I was having a look on amazon (the german one because I’m from Slovenia) the other day and they sell some ”scrap” leather by kilograms that are in ruff squares of 11.7 x 16.5 inches (those are leftovers from a shoe company) the price is around 23€ per kilogram or about 10€ per pound of leather and the thickness is 0.9 to 1.2 mm. I don’t want to go all professional and I don’t mind doing everything by hand, but the price differences for these tools are weird to me, you can buy a set of prongs for 3€ or 13€ or 30€. Obviously I don’t want to buy some cheap shit as I want the tools to do the job well, but , so I don’t want to spend a fortune for them. There are only 2 Tandy shops in Europe one in UK and one in Spain which means they are too far and too expensive anyway. I would really need some advice on these matters

That's a lot of work. I can see why it takes a lot of time and skill! I think a lot of people who don't do leatherwork look at that and say it's a small object, but it requires a lot of handwork even with cutting dies, sewing machines and skivers. They also sometimes don't realize why they cost as much as they do, but look at the equipment you have to buy. The machines and leather aren't cheap. Love your videos!

I like how you back the binding agent away from the edge of the leather. It can show up on the final project as an unsightly line. You're also burnishing the interior edge segments. Attention to detail is everything. You're a top notch craftsman Parker.

FYI, when using a Bic lighter to melt your thread, wipe the melted end with the metal guard of the lighter to avoid any finger oil transfer. It works great and any excess thread wipes right off your lighter once cooled.

Just received my Stock & Barel Redford Western wallet and it's obvious they have become a vivtim of their succes and now produce and ship shoddily manufacured wallets (certainly the one they sent to me). I have contacted them about my complaints and never heard back from them! Sewing machine marks from having the machine pressing too hard on the leather when stitching. It’s the same on the other side as well. Poor fit on the outside piece of leather which once folded stretches the leather, which in turn shows the poor dye quality; as the dye really didn’t penetrate well enough into the leather and when folded shows that. Slip-shod dye quality as the inside was not even completely dyed before assembly and shipping. Now I guess I could could understand all these defects, “if, I had bought one of the seconds they offer”, but to send this wallet out as first quality and charge as such I find to be very poor business! I bought this wallet as a gift for my son’s birthday and sad to say, I’m embarrassed to offer it to him. When I showed the wallet to my wife and her dad, who are both French, (I’m American) they just laughed at me and said, “you should have bought a wallet here in France as we have excellent quality leather products”. Great advertising for US made products, eh! Like I said in an earlier e-mail sent to the contact address, all the fun videos and “happy talk” you have on your site go down the drain, when you see what they really are: “just happy talk and false promises”! Signed “A very disappointed customer!”

Hey Brother, not trying to be rude but I have an industrial sewing machine and learning so this is merely a question about stitching. At this point in the video: (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OI7PYZq7Dmo.html) the bottom stitches don't look like the top. I have this happen to me and I don't know if it's normal or if my tension is set differently. If you look at the bottom the leather seems to be protruding outward while the top stitches are recessed. Thoughts? Thank you for your videos.
