Making a Leather Key Chain Out of Japanese Shell Cordovan | Shinki Hikaku

In this video, I show you the process of making this leather key chain out of Shell Cordvan. The Shell Cordovan used for this project was a Japanese Shinki Hikaku in Natural color. It is an extremely smooth, even, and bright leather.
If you plan on starting to work on leather crafts, making a keychain is a great way to learn how to use the crafting tools. These key chains are very easy and fast to make.

Nice but I've never heard of using tokenole after edge painting.

It's completely optional. It leaves the surface very smooth to the touch and with a polished-like finish even over the edge paint.

I knew Japanese Shell Cordovan was expensive, but I just looked it up and saw that it was over $100+ per sq ft! WOW!

Yeah, it is! But it's really worth it when you see the final products finished :) This Japanese Shell has also a cedar color, which is the one from my banner image. It's a really nice color as well!

What is the white material you used for the edges of the leather? Is that gum?

Yes, after painting the edges with white edge paint I added some burnishing gum, it gives the edges a slight polish and shine, otherwise the paint would have looked mat.

Does it have a cool smell like bormal leather too?

This cordovan leather doesn't, it actually has very little smell compared to other ones. However the Horween Shell Cordovan smells beautiful! As soon as you open the box of a Horween Shell product it's the first thing you'll notice, really worth it.

The keychain measures 6 cm from the ring to the bottom part. 2 cm on the thinnest part (on the ring), and the large circle has a diameter of 4.3 cm.
