Making a Map of Great Britain and Ireland Out of Wood From Native Trees

The follow-up to the hit state tree map series on TikTok in which I make a map out of Great Britain and Ireland out of some really cool and interesting trees! (Note, I had a LOT of comments while this series aired on TikTok from people telling me exactly what regions to separate and not separate, and I just followed the reference map as it was displayed, so idk take any issues up with them)
0:00 Intro
0:24 Scotland | Scots Pine
1:47 Ireland | European Ash
3:36 England | English Oak
5:09 Isle of Man | Rowan
6:49 Northern Ireland | Hawthorn
8:13 Wales | European Yew
9:58 What region is next, and why no map of the entire world?

I’d love to see you tackle Australian trees! Unlike with European and North American species, these plants evolved for millions of years in isolation and were not commercially grown around the world BUT they will have huge amounts of native uses and importance. The diversity would be spectacular and a great way to show off a very different part of the tree world!

Same. They are so so hard. I have tried to carve so stuff out of it using sticks from my scribble gum and some other trees near me. For tazzy you should proboably use huen pine.

It means a lot to hear you mention each country individually, especially speaking about Ireland with sensitivity. Most of the time people think the UK is just England. The end result was gorgeous. Also, that wee Isle of Man was adorable.

you keep saying that you've been worried about being an amateur wood worker, but if all I saw from this community were these expertly intricate pieces of art, I'd never have gained an interest or understanding of the craft at all. I really don't think you even have to aspire to create those kinds of pieces. after all, the word amateur comes from the Latin word that means "to love," and to commit to the hardest part of anything, the beginning, you truly have to love it, which is the most important part. if you did not dare to visibly begin, neither would I aspire to begin on my own. thank you for sharing your passions :)

The Yew is also useful. It has anti-cancer properties, was used to make English Longbows and in other Woodworking. It also deters insects and it was planted in Church Courtyards and Cemeteries in order to deter livestock from grazing and doing their business there on the gravesites. The Tree of Death but also the Tree of Rebirth because the branches can actually propagate after detaching from the Tree. It's a very peculiar plant.
