This is my first time putting together a video like this and I'm still fairly new to being a hamster mum but I thought I would share some of what I've learned so far.
Squeak is a syrian hamster, I've had her for a couple of months now and after she started bar biting I decided it was time for her to have a new setup.
I'm still adding to and improving the cage so any feedback is welcome!
If you have any questions about anything in the video please let me know :)
I would also like to shout out the wonderful people at Bristol Rabbit Rescue, where we adopted Squeak from.

Although I have Guinea Pigs I do love Hamsters. Their tiny feet are soooo endearing and when they're wrapped around food my heart just melts!❣What a lucky girl Squeek is, she's adorable and has a wonderful home, Love you Both 😍 I've subbed and liked 👍 I Love all animals on this planet, might I add the 😍

I really love this video, I like how you mentioned a lot of important information on hamsters! This video was just overall really relaxing to watch and I hope Squeak enjoys her new enclosure! That cage looks great! 😍 The only thing I wanted to mention is to consider adding more bedding - the minimum is 8” though you can never have too much. I’m sure she’d love all the burrowing room in such a tall tank 😊

Hi, this upgrade looks amazing! I'm sure Squeak loves it. What I always do, is building a box for sand and other burrowing materials and attach stilts under it. I also put stilts under the multi-chamber hideout so the hamster can extend the chambers, as he wants to. This way you can put even more bedding in the enclosure and your Hamster can burrow from one end of the glas tank to the other. Thank you for making videos about appropriate hamster care! Love this

I think I'm going to give this a go! I've had a move so the bedding is a lot deeper but it still didn't encourage her to dig so I think the multichamber on top is the way to go!

This looks great! The only thing I would change, is making the substrate deep over as much of the cage as you possibly can fit in, and pop the multichamber hide on the deepest substrate, just so little Squeak can make really large burrows! I love the natural look and all the accessories

Thank you so much :D I did think about doing that but as she pees in her hide I wasn't sure if it would be too hard to spot clean if it was deeper? I'm tempted to try litter training her though so that might be an option in the future! I think I might have a move around and get some more bendy bridges so I can make the bedding a bit deeper like you say as since we've put her in it she definitely has embraced digging!

@@brionykay_ I don't think that's usually too much of an issue! If they burrow and make natural tunnels, they usually make 1 short tunnel close to the top for their toilet which they will naturally remove poops from eventually themselves anyway (but if you stick a sand bath in the multichamber hide they'll generally wee in there :) ).

@@brionykay_ I help run a group on Facebook (syrian hamsters UK & Beyond) and a couple of our admins do a lot of research into natural behaviours and enclosures, if you wanted to join to have a look at some of the advice :) We have "live" videos and long form posts to try acoomodate how people prefer to collect their information :)

Nice layout 👌 Squeak is lucky. I've seen a lot of humongous cages which are very expensive. I was wondering if a cheaper option would be to connect 2 bin cages with a tunnel made of plastic pipe.

You do have to make sure that they have 5000cm² unbroken floor space, so two smaller ones doesn't quite meet the requirements. You can make a cheaper bin cage out of a plastic box though and if that did meet the requirements you could add an additional box with a tunnel for extra space :)

This is great and you are off to such a great start with your care! I would maybe just add a few more wood items and chews to make the enclosure more cluttered but otherwise i really love the concept!

@@brionykay_ You could add some more cork, grapevine( it comes in many different shades too) and some more different sprays, herbs and natural items that you can source either at your petshop or also outside if you sanitize them by baking or boiling...:)

I think generally for hamsters doing spot cleans every day of any visible pees and poos and then a big clean out every 2-3 months, but it depends on the hamster and the cage really! Whenever you clean make sure you leave some bedding in so there's still some familiar smells :) I used to alternate doing each side every couple of months to keep it familiar for Squeak.

I'm not sure so I used a fish tank volume calculator and it said 80.5 UK gallons or 96.7 US gallons! :D

It depends on the hamster really! There are some hamster safe plants you can get such as spider plants and herbs, grass etc. but Squeak is a bit too much of a chewer for those unfortunately! :3

Hello! I don't know if anyone's ever told you this before but your bedding should be alot deeper. You should have anywhere from 17 cm to 25 cm since hamsters naturally burrow in the wild. Also, I'm not 100% sure about using toilet paper in a hamsters cage. I recommend you watch Victoria Raechel's video called something like Basic Hamster Care 2021.
