Making a new handle for a leather tool my dog chewed on.

Pepper was left unattended one day and chewed on the handle of an edge beveler. I am one of those people who would always rather fix something than buy a new one. This video is about how I replaced the handle with one that I feel is better than the original.
I am always working on building something and try to average a RU-vid video once a week. Most often leather work, but I have also posted videos on black smithing, knife making, casting, and even how I make soap. Be sure to Subscribe if you are interested in any of these topics, or just making things in general.

Great video, it’s definitely one I want to try. Will try on my leather working fid. I know how to tie a 2B3L knot and raise it to a larger knot, but have only done it on a mandrel, never on a round handle. So this will add to my meager skill set. Have a few questions: (1) how wide are your strands? I’m guessing around 3/8-1/2”. (2) How thick are your strands? And (3) Where do you source your leather, I typically use cordage so I’ve much to learn about leather? Thanks in advance. Donald

If you are using a mandrel you can slide the knot off of it and on the handle. Then dress it to tighten it to fit the handle. In this case I was using 1/4 inch strands split to about 2 ounce thick (1/32). This lace was cut off some sides I bought from Waterhouse leather. Springfield Leather is also a good company to purchase from and they sell a good selection of pre-cut laces.

Before trying to tie this handle, you might search RU-vid for tying a 2b3l knot and the expansion process on a mandrel, like a large wooden dowel or a heavy duty cardboard tube. I learned expansion passes from Knottactical on Yt. I can see what he is doing but I’m not oriented to spherical handles. Donald
