Dropping Operators onto rooftops, avoiding fire from insurgents below and firing 3000 rounds a minute from the helo, all in total darkness - that was the life for Army veteran and author David Burnett. David Burnett takes readers into a unique world of the 160th Special Operations Aviation regiment. His journey starts in a conventional Army unit where he doesn't feel fulfilled in his duties and obligations. This lack of responsibility drives David to pursue the dream of becoming an MH-47G Chinook helicopter crew chief in the most secretive and elite aviation unit in the world. David is met with constant hurdles and set backs trying to achieve his ultimate goal but he is more determined than ever. After graduating from the units five week selection process he is thrown into school after school and non stop training before being able to step foot on the aircraft he so desperately dreams of crewing on. After almost a year in the Special Operations unit he is trained and ready to deploy with 160th, and it is nothing short of intense. He learns quickly that his new units mission op tempo is exactly what he had hoped. He is eager to prove himself among the ranks and continues to hone his craft over the next four years. After five deployments with the unit as a crew chief he is discharged from the military. After leaving the fast paced world of the SOF community he falls into a deep depression. Alcohol becomes the new most important thing, and he finds himself in a new and reckless battlefield. He never saw this coming. I am a 15P/ 93p Aviation Flight Operations Coordinator. This unit is awesome. To be a part of them is very ultra elite! God Bless all of them. Their service worldwide availability helps you understand how fragile peace really is in the world. Freedom is not free. Bravo Zulu to all military people. You make America 🇺🇸 proud 365!
"so the guy at left ramp calls "contact, 7-8 o'clock." but before he even called that chalk 2, i could just see tracer rounds just pelting the shit out of this rooftop" bruh moment
if I was only 30 years younger...…. lol! great stuff, we have the best military in the whole fucking world. much respect for these dudes. thank you for doing what you do!

Campbell and some Joe at Replacement says anybody with acceptance letters raise there hand, except for Spc. Jeselink there's a jeep outside waiting on YOU!!!!!!!! and the Guy in it said Welcome to the 160th....... I was selected from Germany , Not asked just selected and Boy was it a Ride..... The Late 1st.Sgt Ronnie Orebo was my TOP. C/158th Task Force 160th. NSDQ......
CH33Z3B4LL3R incorrect, you can be a multitude of MOSes. They have an MOS list on the recruiting page. Everything from 15 Aviation down to 94 Electronic Maintenance is eligible to try out
If you become a 15T. I can say as a 67T20F/15T20F who did 10 years and 9 deployments not counting training time. Do not walk into this job married, or married with kids. You will not retire with them in your life. Welcome to the MOS with the highest suicide and divorce rate of the Army. You will turn into a insomniac. The VA will not address anything about you because you were not infantry. Only them and none of the rest of us got shot at, shot, or in the shit. Vietnam in a full fire fight you got 30 seconds to lay down fire before you were dead as The Man in the Door. 9 deployments in 10 years for me (training time is not included here). I was getting my warrant packet and flight packet together. Then a private told me he was going to shoot me. I beat his ass and got kicked out. 10 years lost. I have worked with every alphabet soup name you can think. But, I didn't care my mission was operators being dropped off or picked up. Or any other customer needs. I was not with 160th. Spent 4 with B Co 2-1 AVN. 1st I.D. Another 4 with Stetson Troop 4/3ACR and 9 months with A Co 1/228th. 10 years I got 1 year 3 months of some freedom. Hey 10% rule right?
HORRIBLE Book , I rated As three Stars ONLY Because he was a Combat Vet. It is written at a Grace School level and eventually the author gets out , has PTSD and substance abuse issues .....like a lot of Combat Vets
