No music, no talk, just the craft and its sounds.
In this video, I show in-depth the making of the patterned rosette that is the signature of my classical guitars. There are many ways to go about it, and sometimes I like to explore new methods.
The rosette combines veneers of different species of wood in a unique side-grain pattern. In this particular one, I have black stained Sycamore and natural-colored Beech. It is for my guitar #10, 'Benu', which has an aged Red Western Cedar soundboard.
Check out my website to see all the guitars I have made so far!

You missed one of the most interesting and important thing - turning square-section rods to trapezium one :) In general, those angle is something that drives me crazy as usual mosaic is rectangle and there's either picture distortion or extremely complicated glueing process... Nevertheless, thanks for video. Really stylish and clean rosette, modern and simple.

I use a sander to make the appropriate angle. In my design the angle doesn't really impact the overall aesthetic of the rosette, but that might be the case in other designs, particularly if you like bigger motifs. Knowing the size of the piece you can calculate how many pieces you will need, and thus how much angle to apply. I split the angle in two and sand it in both ends of the rectangle, but I know some folks like to make it all in one side and leave the other side square. Set a bevel gauge with the angle desired to check your piece and that's it! Thank you for the comment!

Thank you! Cheers! This particular one come about when I was failing to copy a design from an ancient art book. It developed from there. I studied and worked with indigenous peoples for several years and they frequently use similar patterns, so I was also inspired by them.

Ma per quale motivo scavi a mano quando hai la fresa? Un giro ed è fatto lo scasso con la massima precisione🤷‍♀️

In short, because I like it so. The router is loud and makes a lot of dust. Also, to prolong the life of the bit. In the end, I build these guitars as much for myself as for my clients. So I enjoy the process.
