Interesting application of the Falcon2! I'm doing some completely different applications with it for an upcoming vid. In the past, I've used a big CO2 laser and a serious fibre laser, but this thing sits on a desktop and just works without any of the size, cooling systems and cost of those machines. I'm DEFINITELY stealing your idea about making flasks, I don't have a finger jointer or planer-thicknesser any more, and the dust from a router and circular saw is not compatible with my workshop, which is now full of 3D printers and electroforming gear. Much simpler to remove smoke than sawdust. I've been using the honeycomb but with magnets to hold parts above it, and I have the enclosure and fan as well, it keeps the thing clean and free of dust and dog-hairs too. So far, I'm impressed with this machine. Look forward to see what else you can do with pattern-making and accessories. I'm trying mine to try to develop oxide coloration on titanium, cutting stainless foil and bleaching the dyes on anodized aluminium.

Nice plaque. Some history on the meaning of the boundary would be interesting. Those brass screws might be toxic to the tree; I know copper screws and nails are.

i think you need longer screws

There a very old state hospital near me which had a cementary where they'd buried patients whose family couldn't or wouldn't claim them. Since they were not allowed to spend an significant amount of money they have a plaque at the corner enterance stating what it is and they placed stone (later concrete) post about 3 foot high and spaced about 8- 10 foot apart around the boundaries the top of the post has a metal ring with steel chain strung slightly slack between... ut makes for very stately appearance, lasts a long time and is low maintenance..... a friend refurbished it about 20 yrs ago as his eagle scout project. I think they stopped using it official in the 1950s and it had nit had any major maintenance since the 1920s.

You may not have to pay property tax, being there's a cemetery on the land.

I believe you can mix aluminum powder with clay. Run a thin film over the wood flask. To prevent alot of the burning. And just the clay will help a lot! It may be worth trying to save the flask!

Thanks for the exposition on the CNC Laser machine. That appears to be a really capable instrument. I didn't know that I needed one until now! BTW, a little beeswax on those screw threads makes them a lot easier to drive. My grandfather taught that trick to me long, long ago.

That is a great looking laser, mine is a different brand and 20 wat, it will cut cardboard (and start a fire) but that all it will cut. I do laser engraving on my woodworking projects but sure would like to be able to cut as well. I think the plaque looks fantastic.

Wow! How very interesting! I came here to see a video about the Creality Falcon 2 40w. HOWEVER, what I found was far, far, far better. Why? As I began watching, I heard you say that the Magnolia is your state flower. Hmmmm. So is mine! Then, I heard you talking about the Dancing Rabbit Creek and the Choctaw Indians. Hmmm. I know that area, especially down the Natchez Trace. Later on, I THINK I heard you mention the name "Easterwood." OK, that just about did it. So, although I now live in Tupelo, I was reared in Starkville. And, while watching this, I thought, "I wonder if he lives somewhere around Ackerman." I have a good friend who lives in Ackerman and is a master craftsman woodworker. Mike Parker. Mike was one of my student teachers when I taught junior high Industrial Arts at Henderson Jr High in Starkville. Watching you make this plaque reminded me of my days as a student at MSU...and taking "Forging, Welding, and Foundry" under the tutelage of the amazing Mr. Ralph Reeves. Later, when I became a faculty member in the Dept of Technology and Education at MSU, I was privileged to work alongside Ralph for 17 years. Sadly, Ralph has now passed, but he made indelible, positive impressions upon thousands of young lives. I have an xTool D1 10w laser and am thinking about upgrading. The Creality machine is on the top of my list of suspects. would this actually engrave metal? Brass. Copper, Silver? It cuts thin stainless steel so I'm not sure.

Nice addition to the shop. How were the box joints secured? Glue probably won't stick to the char.

The cemetery should be marked on the property's plat. Whether a developer would pay attention to it is another matter.

Depending on how you focus the laser, you might actually find it gives its own draft to the cut parts. Because the light is focused as a cone, as it goes deeper, it can leave an angle to the cuts. With thick material used as a pattern, it could be easier to remove the pattern from the sand if you cut a mirror image and flip it over.

!00 years from now, that dead-assed limb with a sign hanging on it will be LONG GONE my friend! Hahaha

The tree was there...until you drive four large screws into an old tree opening it up to disease.

AN industrial version pattern making laser I saw once, would deposit fine layers of sand and "activate them" into the mold shape by the laser, then build a new layer of sand and laser the shape into again; slowly building the mold pattern up layer by layer. Hopefully, it wont be long before they have a laser set up like this available for the home user.

So, how did you shim/glue the raised portions of the pattern evenly ?

Thanks for not using Phillips wood screws. They are designed to strip out, which is almost never what you want.
