The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority has proposed to develop a 350 sq km settlement across the city harbour, a top official said on Friday. The authority is aiming to make the region as the fastest growing growing centre in the country in the next decade on the back of Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Mumbai Transharbour Link (MTHL), its commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said. “From MMRDA, we have proposed a new town where the MTHL lands. MTHL is supposed to be a game changer,” Mukherjee said in an address to realty developers at an event organised by the industry lobby Naredco here.
He said the “town” will have an area of 350 sq km. It can be noted that the size of Mumbai is over 600 sq km, while that of Navi Mumbai is 344 sq km and the Naina city being planned by Cidco next door is 370 sq km.
Mukherjee said the proposed town is different from Naina and declined to share further details. He said the body is planning to make it among the few settlements in the country where infrastructure like transport connectivity is developed before the buildings come up. He said MTHL and NMIA will each boost the national GDP by 1 percentage point, which will turn the Navi Mumbai region into a hotspot for economic activity.

Eastern waterfront is being designed by the same architect who is building the central vista project so no the project didn't go into "thanda basta" it's just that the connectivity is first needed for the actual ground works to take place and the new age projects with the help of technology is being done in a planned manner we already saw many parts of Mumbai transforms so definitely as the country's economy is booming these transformations are inevitable so no point doubting it

About connectivity : Atal Setu( Sea Link which is under completion by Dec 2023 ) will connect South Mumbai to New Mumbai . Pune Mumbai express Highway will be connected to New Mumbai ( Atal Setu ) at Chirle by 30 km 6 lane elevated highway the contract for the same has been awarded to a company called Gawar International who will complete the project in 36 months .Also Pune Mumbai express Highway will be converted from 6 to 8 lane .

Maharashtra better build a proper internationally competent city from the ground up like gift city or dholera as they rely too heavily on Mumbai and trying to build new projects in the city is much more expensive and time consuming. Just expanding the city with new projects in the Navi Mumbai region doesn't help bcz most people don't feel motivated or incentivized to move out of their comfort zone especially in western Mumbai and move to Navi Mumbai. I've had friends move from different cities who initially settled in Navi Mumbai but moved out quickly and settled closer to western areas.

@@harshalgawai746 13% area covered in slums and there 1.5 cr lives. My society is 520 acre there only 16k live. Near my area there is slum which consists of 480cr bt there 90k PPL live. PPL come in. Mumbai cuz in Mumbai rent is cheap if u live in slums it's 4-6k bt in 1rk flat it's 25k min. 83% slum population don't have voting rights. For cheap labour all businesses want slums. As locals don't work for less salary and more than 10+ hrs. Maharashtra sends most remittance now. Cuz most maharshtrian going abroad and from there they buy land in Mumbai. As with job and retail business u can't buy a house easily. Bt with dollars u can buy.

It can't be like Manhattan. In Asia in general, tall towers are built to imitate the west like in Dubai, and are mostly residential buildings. It's stupidity in places like Dubai because space is Abundant. In Manhattan, 90% of those tall buildings you see are offices. Less than 10 percent residences in the form of hotels, service apartments and very expensive apartments. In most cities in the US, down town is the place people come to work and therefore most tall buildings are offices, and people prefer to stay far away from such places. Since it's a car based society and most other countries are public transport based, living in far away suburbs is not an option. So in India, we develop many cities within cities. I had my cousins living almost 1 hour 30 mins drive from their work place in Manhattan, commuting everyday by highway

Central government should distribute all businesses to reach state. At the same time mandate each state to build such 2 to 3 planned cities. For example all the IT software business companies must move out of Bangalore as that city is not scalable and sustainable. This would strengthen the local economics just like how it is in USA. Many states apart from California has stuck IT jobs and businesses like New York, Austin, Dallas- Texas, Seattle in Washington state, Atlanta in Georgia, Miami in Florida, Boston in Massachusetts and many more.

This project has been proposed for decades but isn’t likely to happen. Only a small part of MbPT land is actually proposed to be developed, just a couple of hundred acres. That too is stuck because none of the parties can agree with what has to be done on the land parcel. And while all this talk is going on, MbPT is actually continuing allotting land parcels for shipping related activities and carrying out modernisation of berths etc. They may eventually part with some area where residential projects will come up, but that will more or less be it.

forget about developing the Mumbai city, on sion belapur road, there is this chedda nagar mankurd bridge, the drinage of the bridge is choked, after you cross tata power station, there is almost no road huge pits/craters, the tilak nagar bridge is choke point, and yes this roandwhen it touches cst road at Kurla, the slums, the metro work, illegal parking by garages and bikes parked on middle of road and sewage has made things hell for people going to BKC bandra, traffic police is joke, they dont even fine these illegal parking, again this new kalina bride, pits appeared after 15 days of opening the bridge, and exit of bridge to WEH is single lane , well this is the planning of all MMRDA and BMC engineers, all our taxes down the drain,
