Our ILFORD MULTIGRADE RC PORTFOLIO black and white photographic paper has been reformulated and relaunched with our 5th generation emulsion.
Our premium double-weight 255gsm resin coated variable contrast paper now benefits from a slightly warmer base tint, better blacks for greater depth, improved mid-grade spacing and a smoother sensometric curve providing more uniform contrast throughout the tonal range.
In additional to making beautiful darkroom prints, our 10x15cm pack is perfect for making postcards to send to friends or family (or us as we also love to receive them). It is simple to do and this video shows you how.

Sending postcards are a great way of keeping in touch with friends and family, and our double weight MULTIGRADE RC PORTFOLIO paper is the perfect darkroom paper to print them on.

il loved the old post cards with the print. It had someting special. I understand things change and will also by the new paper. But i think it would be worth the pennies, pound of euros it would cost extra. And be fare.. there is no real competition when it comes to postcard darkroom paper.. ;-) Your quality is up there..

@@WietsedeJong We loved them too. There are several reasons why we can't continue to back print, so we've tried to make it as easy as possible for people to carry on using them as postcards by including the template. We'd love to see one of your postcards if you want to send us one:)

@ILFORD Photo I will write this on my to do list! This Christmas as lockdown project me, my wife and son (7) made some "chemigrams" on the ilford postcard paper. Digital doesn't do them justice but you can find theme here -> www.wietsedejong.nl/project-chemigram-chemigrammen/

Love the idea. However I cant even get a classic MGRCDL paper in my country. Had to custom order from 2 shops and still waiting (3 months already)...

@@PHlophe a gift of a ton of old paper. It's hard to find on eBay. Haven't been able to find it online at all.

Hopefully you'll still enjoy using this new version. Unfortunately the machine that we used for back-printing had to be commissioned but we've made it as easy as we can for you to continue sending postcards.

We could print the back-printing ourselves. Especially if you put a PDF on your web site.

fab idea Ilford, if you give us a "contact printing frame", and supply the simplicity chemistry set, would make a great kit, esp. for something to do during covid times, as we can photograph anything, and make our own postcard, with the contact printing video you have done, should make a video on doing just this, all together, as a "covid buster", something to while away the times, and to keep the practice up. also great for post-covid, sell it as a holiday kit, to make a postcard while you are there.

Just bought the last few boxes of MGIV postcards I could find! What was the rationale for stopping the printing of lines on the back?

The machine use to make the back prints had to be de-commissioned, we've made it as simple as possible for you to be able to carry on sending the postcards though:)

If we have to do the postcard side ourself, we don't need to limit ourselves with the 10x15 size... We can use any size ;-) The pre-print just looked more clean and could be used to sell, now it will just look more hand made and just for friends and family ! Didn't you make a template to be printed on the back?

There is a template included in the box and they are still the perfect size for sending through the post:) I'm sure that friends and family would love larger prints too though :)

I still have some of a box of actual postcard stock that you guys used to make. Wish you still did. It's 10 by 15 cm, slightly smaller than 5 by 7 inches, is that why you quit?

Will you ever bring pre-printed postcards back? I know I can silkscreen print the packs, but I like it more when they are originally like that.

Hi Melanie, unfortunately not. The machine that did the back printing had to be de-commissioned. Hopefully we have shown just how easy it is to create your own postcards though.

Our postcard sized paper is 10x15cm and comes with a template to draw the postcard on the back. We have ni plans to makes this in another size.

What size paper is it? 4"x6"? I never knew Ilford made a postcard paper, I used the Kodak kodabromide ones years ago, they were 3.5"x5.5". I am wanting to print some though, I think I'll order a box.

Yes it's 4x6 or 10 x15cm. It;'s been around for years and there are groups who print using this paper and then do postcard exchanges. Let us know how you go on with it :)

Hi, can you print (in normal printer) text or anything on the back side of the already developed photo?

Hi Julia - There's no reason why not. The only issue you may encounter depending on your printer are the rollers marking the prints.

OK, i looked and b&h has this but it has some weird designation gds or something, and the description talks about digital priinters, whatever those are. Does this paper work with Dektol? I use Dektol. Regular wet darkroom, Focomat enlarger, printing trays and all that. thanks charlie

Hi Francesco. We just used a Sharpie in this video, but any ballpoint pen will work. If you wan to be extra careful then you can use a soft pencil or acid free archival pen to write on the back of your Portfolio postcard.

You still get the high quality double weight paper, with the added bonus of latest emulsion. There's also a template in the box to make it even easier:)

@@Ilfordphoto luckily I bought 4 boxes of the old ones when they started become scarce. Hopefully you guys eventually print the new ones too. After 8 hours in the darkroom, I don’t want to sit down with a tiller and a pencil.

Pointless without the reverse printing. The 'template' is a bit of laugh. Pity i could go through literally thousands but Ilford once again being all corporate and bottom line. It will come back to bite at some point. Lots of interesting bespoke analogue products springing up now from other manufacturers and loyalty works both ways. You can't keep knocking things on the head and keep your customers.
