I absolutely love my Hakim. They kick like an AR, sound like an artillery piece. :)

I had one of these and was AMAZED at how low the recoil was. It was truly a smooth operating rifle. The gas adjustment tool is almost non existing.

You can use a 1/4" nut driver with a notch cut out for the thin edge of the triangular gas adjustment,

Nice presentation. I have a 1967 made example. Serial research on Gunboards puts production from 1956-1969 and number made at 52-55k.

Lol, I was telling my buddy the garand may bruise your nail but this will kill the nail. It has now been confirmed. I've got garand thumb, it was unpleasant but I can only imagine the hakim. Its frightening to close the bolt on an empty chamber

Hakim, not Khakim btw. Only hebrew has no distinction between S, SH and k, KH (they just have Sh, KH). Arabic has a different letter for each sound.

I got in a internet argument this morning about Hakim’s. People were shitting on them and saying how trash they were, and how they were very poorly built and generally unsafe. I think the Hakim’s they came across were the Ethiopian RT imports worn out ones. I have seen two of these Ethiopian imported Hakims, they are trashed. The corrosive ammunition destroys their DI gas system and the chambers were ravaged by pitting. I doubt these rifles were cleaned much when out of Egyptian service, especially since you mentioned no cleaning tools were stored on the rifle. I think they are fine rifles, just when all you see is garbage destroyed ones I feel that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Never heard of major/serious manufacturing shortcomings. Honestly considering just how young Egypt's industry was at the time, i think they did a great job building the Hakim.
@thomkatt
@thomkatt 2 года назад
@@misha5670 I would have to agree. Maybe the adjustable gas system also causes issues, especially since you need a tool to adjust it and no one probably even knows that the rifle is equipped with such system.
@misha5670
@misha5670 2 года назад
@@thomkatt Issues today for American surplus owners, but back in the '50s considering all the different types of 8mm Egypt had in stockpile; made perfect sense. Why require a tool? So that a soldier wouldn't screw with it in the field. Better to only let the armor adjust the gas if/when required. Same reason French guns use weird screws.

I saw that video. That Hakim was in really bad shape. On mine, I never adjusted the gas valve as I bought a partial case of Egyptian 8mm shortly after. Finally running out now so I made an adjustment tool to try other 8mm. The rifle was already set at the first click to open but I've heard comments that Egyptian ammo was weak. Obviously wrong.

MG13 magazines can be easily modified to fit the Hakim to give it a 25 round capacity. I love mine.. LOUD , LOUD, LOUD WHEN FIRING A HAKIM. they were advertised as in " dropped in sand only once" condition when first imported back in the 80s.. And mine was literally covered in sand around the gas tube. But it is in beautiful condition.
@misha5670
@misha5670 2 года назад
Yep, they sure can. I wonder how common and easy to find those are these days? I'm so out of the loop on a lot of surplus stuff.
@strayblackcatsmeow

Mine had sand in the magazine and in the grease on the metal. I was not looking for milsurp but just curious at a gun show. There was no sample displayed, no manuals, and just one rifle mostly wrapped in paper. It was a dirty sand and grease $125 mystery that I was about to move on until he drastically dropped the price to sell his last item and go home. I ran my thumb through the grease and saw clean blue so I figured what the hell and bought it. Best rifle I've ever shot. Won't sell it for any amount.

That Hakim needs a rubber shell buffer. Sarco has them for $7. Before recently they were fairly hard to find. Only problem is properly attaching them. I believe they were originally riveted on but I temporarily attached mine with small machine screws and nuts until I figure out which rivets to get.

I made my own gas tool by melting soldier into the socket of a nut driver, and with the rifle upside down cast the impression into the nutdriver and let cool. After you have a perfectly shaped tool for adjustments. I found my rifle yo be severely over gassed even in the lowest setting. I had to replace extractor paw due damage and replaced the recoil spring to be safe. Still the gun would violently eject and cause damage to the rim of the ammo. I only hand load for this rifle now and have had the greatest of luck using light 150gr bullets using the lowest powder charge specified in my load data. With that said it has became one of my favorite rifles to soot ever. When everything is gassed correctly and the stock is bedded good these rifles will not disappoint. Experience with loading is a must for old rifles like these, to the unassuming person using hot ammo could have a case head separation and blow the magazine and gun apart likely have done before with these rifles. I would only recommend these rifles to experienced shooters only.
