Making a simple inexpensive hyrographics dip tank

I'm building a temporary hydrographics dip tank from parts I could find locally. This tank will work pretty well until I can build a better Stainless steel tank. Was not too difficult to build and can be done for around 200$ ish.
I purchased all the materials at my local home depot. these are the local prices and may vary from state to state.
70 gal Tough Storage Bin with wheels $44.98
17 gal Tough Storage Bin $9.98
Everbuilt 1/2 HP Utility pump $129.00
10' of 3/4 ID vinyl tubing $29.19
24 x 36 x 1 Budget FRP 2 Washable Filter $8.49
1" PVC pipe and misc fittings
**Update**
I removed the valve meant to bleed off excess pump pressure since it was not needed. I also added a check valve downstream of the pump since it would begin to siphon from the big tank to the sump after turning the pump off.
I am also installing a 120 v 2500 watt water heater element through a bulkhead fitting into the big tank. I will wire it to a PID controller and a thermocouple to maintain proper water temp 90-95 Degrees F. Once completed I'll do a quick video showing the modifications I have made.
The 3D print STL file is availible on Prusa printables: www.printables.com/model/5423...

3d printers are only getting cheaper and easier to use. You can get a small but effective resin 3d printer (which is actually what I recommend for it's relative ease-of-use, greatly simplifies the setup process) or a similar FDM printer for less than $300 for resin and less than $200 for FDM (Anycubic Photon or Creality Ender 3). Alternatively you could just JB weld strips of metal or wood to the plastic in that same spot, doesn't take all that much creativity lmao.

Sorry, I'm Late getting back with you I was traveling the past few days. I'll get a parts list put together for you and a better description of the pump system. I have slightly modified it since I did the video.
@alaskanmancave5301
@alaskanmancave5301 3 года назад
I added the parts list to the description of the video and their local cost. I hope that helps. As for the water system, the pump in the lower sump(small tote) pumps water to the big tote's spray bar through the vinyl hose. The spray bar is intended to push the surface water and any unactivated film through the slit I cut in the end of the big tote and through the filter and back to the sump. This keeps the surface of the water clean and maintains the water level at the same time. I hope this answers your questions. Keep in mind the update I put in the description about the removal of the valve and the addition of a check valve. Let me know if you have any other questions or comments.

I have to admit the 3d printer really simplifies things, but with little creativity there are a lot of different options. A cut piece of pipe, routered chunk of plastic, etc.. Anything to stiffen the edge that can be sealed up will work fine.

@alaskanmancave5301
@alaskanmancave5301 3 года назад
I'm sure that the entire spillway could be 3D printed. The part I printed was the max-width I could get on my printer. And I printed it diagonally across my build plate. I could have printed several pieces and glued them together. But, that is why I built it from metal it was easier and faster. There is never a set solution to a problem and it is fun to see how others tackle it in their own way.

@alaskanmancave5301

@@lewisclarke8018 perhaps you could use a tote lid and some strips of wood to stiffen the tote. The lid could screw to the wood. Lots of ways to solve the problem. Just be creative with what you have at your disposal. Could even try one of those fiberglass kits from the auto parts store. All you really need is something to stiffen the edge an something water proofed to direct the water. Good luck with your project.

Another thing I thought I would mention with your parts list is to go to let's say amazon and become an affiliate.
