I have been reading about Kolrosing (or spelt Kohlrosing depending where you read the word) and I was really keen to give it a go.
Kohlrosing is the Scandinavian tradition of incising thin decorative lines and patterns in carved wood and filling with dark powders or colored wax, etc. for contrast. So the knives for this purpose (although you can just use a carving knife) tend to have a shallower bevel to them, and are used a little bit like a pen from examples and videos I've seen of people doing the craft.
I couldn't find any knives that were in my budget or easy to import at the moment, so I decided to make one from a small piece of 8mm HSS bar. I've made a few woodturning tools from this before and they've all worked really well and seem to hold their edge well enough.
This is about as simple as tool building can get, grind an edge, make and fit a handle, then hone and use. Nothing complicated, but hopefully the process is enjoyable to watch and it creates a useable tool that should be perfect for what I want.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for watching!
