"whatever these are meant to be" are the safety valves, they let off excess steam when the pressure gets too high and prevent a boiler explosion. (though boiler explosions are still possible through a crown sheet failure if the water level gets too low)

A little fun fact; When the falcon engines were initially built, none of them had the tracking wheel at the back, so the engines were 0-4-0's to begin with and were later modified to have the tracking wheels, so technically you could have the model in that wheel set up and no one would really complain.

@HorwichWren
@HorwichWren 23 дня назад
Narrow gauge railways didn't really abide by standard gauge customs, as the railways were usually much smaller and with a limited number of trains running at once. They were often purpose built to handle one or two different types of traffic so headcodes wouldn't really apply

I'd love to see a single-Fairlie, something along the lines of the now-scrapped 'Moel Tryfan', or the scrapped-and-then-replicated 'Taliesin'. Both are simply beautiful little engines. I remember you saying that the trains in Railway Life would not generally be long, but the narrow-gauge has such a diversity of carriages and wagons that a long line of them behind a fussing, bouncing locomotive is inescapably delightful. The locomotive already made is so delightfully cute!

@MashUpGames They were more universally successful than the doubles, but less well-remembered. One survives in New Zealand, and the US spun off the design as the Mason Bogie. A Ffestiniog driver recalled them fondly - 'the railways in heaven are run by single-Fairlies', were his words.

Looking great! You've distilled and captured a lot of the charm of these little locomotives. And, as you say, this is really timely given the recent debut of the Corris Railway's new Falcon. I won't repeat what others have said about the safety valves. Still, you might be interested to know that Sir Haydn and her Falcon siblings were originally built without those little trailing wheels under the cab - they were a later addition made to correct the tendency for the engines to "bounce" due to the long overhang the cab created at the back of the engine. From the angles you've shown, I think you've just about shortened the locomotive enough to possibly not need them. The final choice is up to you, but you could maybe make the trailing wheel an aesthetic option that people can click on and off.

0:06 The representation of Sir Haydn looks so cool! By the way, a cool detail perhaps would be to name the train after a fictional Lord or Lady on the island. Sir Haydn earned its name from the original owner of the Talyllynn Sir Henry Haydn Jones. Naturally of course, when Wilbert Awdry wrote his books, SIr Handel (based on Sir Haydn) was named after Sir Handel Brown, the original owner of the Skarloey Railway who in turn was a nod to Sir Henry Haydn Jones. This looks great man! Keep up the good work :D If you want a more open design of the cab, the Falcon locomotives did originally come with an open cab design (the best way I can describe it is that the top back panel with the windows are cut off). Idk where exactly you can find references for this design but it’s out there!

Corris No. 1 was supplied with a roof, just not a weatherboard. I'd still argue that constitutes a cab

i do have to admit. a accurate-setting would be actually awesome and cool for a game along with the locos

If you ever end up making custom narrow guage locos based on standard guage, I have to specifically ask for one based on Dwarf or her sister Little England built by George England

I volunteer at the railway that used to be home to bear it was sold of earlier this year it was in a sorry state the saddle tank had rusted through in some places the paint job has been changed to a brown colour to hide the rust and the cab was starting to fall apart

As a suggestion, You should be able to toggle things on the engine/train like giving it the trailing wheels or lower cab

honestly I think it would be a cool little detail if we could name our engine, but the default name was "Falcon". Cause like you said Falcon is a cool name for an engine.

side-note: It would be cool if the lamps were customization options.

For the next narrow gauge locomotive you add into your game I would like to suggest the Denver, Rio Grande&Western K-37 #491

I do still hope to see this game looking like toys or model railway 😍

I will have a video in the future to talk about the artstyle (which I'm still figuring out), but my vision is some hybrid mix of model railways and stylised game art, basically a more-stylised model railway

Personally I would add a Double Fairlie Class. While it is long, they were very good at traversing tight curves and such, but Still. Keep up the Amazing work!
