This reminds me about back when I was studying at university for getting my bachelor degree, one of the courses was a SMD course. I managed to get down to 1.5x1.5 cm board size for a 555-timer with a blinking LED, smallest in my class. This was a healthy competition for all in my class to do their best. 😉

Smaller are not always better when you think about long-term health of the boards.. I have noticed smaller electronics holds more heat, and burns itself up faster over time..

Bro just changed the chip and this changed all other elements like the amount of resistors and he even uses just 2 capacitors as he original used 3 of them with a bigger size. And bigger size means higher voltage. That's why your new PCB cant handle the same things at higher voltage as the other PCB before.
@peregrinedevelopments3730

It's a buck-boost converter that outputs 1.2-5.5V from a 3.7V nominal lithium battery input, high voltage isn't a concern

But can't the aliexpress board handle more current?
@user-cj1jk9dc3e
@user-cj1jk9dc3e 5 месяцев назад
It has the potential because there is more room for thicker connections and bigger components, but that doesn't mean, that they build it that way. The question is also how much current you need.
@playvectrex
@playvectrex 5 месяцев назад
It can likely handle more power dissipation, or has a higher ambient temperature range of continuous operation. Larger PCB copper planes can work like a built in heat sink.

@Kilosek

You can make it with more layer with more copper in every layer. But the price gonna rise up.
@CHIPSpeaking
@CHIPSpeaking 5 месяцев назад
@@Kilosek You would also have to increase the values on the components on the boards to actually increase the capacity of the circuit as a whole, simply increasing the thickness of copper traces will fail if done alone.

As someone who likes to make small portable electronics I appreciate any effort to make things smaller. I don’t have enough skill, patience, or money to make fully custom boards so I mostly design mother-daughter boards to work with off the shelf boards. The lithium charger/discharge boards available today are hard to use and have more current capacity than I need. I’ve since just started using Adafruits Feather development boards since they have almost everything I want built into the board already

@WilisL
@WilisL 4 месяца назад
Your stencils are tailored to your PCB schematic (obviously), so when you order your PCB, 99% manufacturers will give you an option to add in a stencil. For example, JLPCB, you put in your gerber files, and down at the bottom ish there is a checkbox for stencils, you just tick it and select the options. It doesn't add too much cost to the PCB order, the main kicker is the shipping fee! If you components are big (Like maybe 0603 and larger), you can perhaps resin print your own stencil. I've heard some success stories on that.
