pretty cool job! Imma need you to do two things tho. 1.) don't swing a friggin axe toward your hand and 2.) throw that stanley vice away, thing gave you fits the whole project. other than that 5/5 excellent presentation.

I really like how the tomahawk turned out but I have a couple of questions/comments. First - why not restore the original axe instead of modifying it so much? 2nd - I’m concerned that putting the nails all in a row and so close to each other might cause the handle to split when using it. 3rd - Why did you put linseed oil on the metal? 4th - Did the heat from all that cutting damage the metal at all? I’m not being a troll either lol These are my genuine questions lol

Hi. Thanks for commenting! Regarding nail so far handle hasn't broke however I don't use it very often. I put oil on the metal to pretect it form corrosion. I was removing material very slowly and cooling it down in water as I went along. You can see that metal changes colour and loose its strength when it's becoming too hot. I didn't let metal get that hot. Hope that helped 😊

all that hard work on the blade, with a beautiful finish, and then that monstrosity of a handle. what was with those gnarly little bits of leather, and those very inconspicuous nails?? not hating, just asking.
@FALCON390Workshop
@FALCON390Workshop 5 лет назад
Hi. Thanks for your comments. Glad you like an axe head. The handle was made from upcycle materials wood and leather straps. Nails? That's my last minute idea to make axe look more primitive. Overall that was a good fun making it and me personally like how it looks like. Axe performs well, handle feels good in hand and nails doesn't seem to effect it. Check my other videos out and let me know your thoughts 👍 Cheers

I have a question for anyone reading this. Does all that heat generated by the cutting wheel harm the metal? Does the heat damage the temper of the metal? I might be using the wrong words so I hope someone understands what I’m asking Cheers
@MrManic52001

@mohammadazhim7663
@mohammadazhim7663 4 года назад
it does generate a heat.but as long the color of that metal didnt change it wont ruined it
@slc308
@slc308 2 года назад
Yes. He ruined the heat treatment on that by getting it too hot. He did not cool it down enough or often enough. You can watch the color change from shiny to a straw yellow to a brown shade in places. This means he heated it up too much.

I do like it , only thing I`d have done different is a longer haft , and a different handle wrap ! been doing this stuff myself for 40 years now !wish I`d had your tools ! lol

Ruined the temper a few times over by not cooking it down enough and allowing the colors to run. Additionally you made the handle round. That will make it turn in your hand and deflect in use. Bad design. Bad execution.

@@prepperjonpnw6482 First shapes of the Tomahawks were Native American and made of stone. Around 30,000 bc. Did England become England that far back? I know the Viking's were the first Europe's to trade with Native American's probably with the stone shaped and the steel shaped.
