Hi Andy, Well done for persevering with a very challenging task, not easy at all having “made” a bobbin by hand myself. As you mentioned you have very little or no margin for error as the window space is very valuable. I like the jig you used to get the bobbin square. I used the former only when I attempted it. Lots of swearing involved! : )

Thanks Ian, as you know it takes some work to build what is a simple structure. Hopefully if I build one again it will be easier. TFW.

Andy- There are some plastics that Super Glue just won't work on. When I get into storage tomorrow, I may have a 545 or 545A scope that is a hanger queen. Barring that, there is a ham fair in 2 weeks and I may be able to come up with a power tx there.. Is there any difference between the 545 & 545A scopes power tx? I have to move the tree off the 5 ton to get past it to the storage, or at least cut a path through the limbs.

Your right there Frank but I think in this case it wasn't the glue for this job. Ta for the offer of a replacement, AFAIK the 545 & 585A tfmr's are different, not much, but enough to matter. Also shipping such a heavy tfmr might not be economic. Will chat. TFW.

Hi, it appears that all the windings were fine, is it possible the core has issues? I have made wire spools using ABS filament (2 pieces then gluing together with pvc cement) my cheap 3d printer that worked out very well. Rich

"Hi, it appears that all the windings were fine" They weren't, see - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ULeXcKUTKBg.html&ab_channel=DiabolicalArtificer I did extensive testing to confirm the diagnosis. I've had the same fault on three different Tek 500 series scope mains tfmrs. Two 585A's & a 545B tfmr. By core do you mean bobbin? I don't have a 3D printer, hence the hand built bobbin. As you say though it's possible to 3D print bobbins. I'll go into far more detail in the next video. Thanks for your input & TFW.

Hi I mean the metal laminations, years ago I had very large motors rebuilt and some they said the lamented steel was shoring to itself I wondered if your transformer had those issues Rich@@diabolicalartificer

Side by side syring-epoxy is useless and designed by people who never used it. Getting the same amount of resin and hardener is impossible plus it tends to spill out when you cap it and put it aside after use.

You had the same experience then. living in a rural part of the UK there often isn't a good selection of decent epoxy in the shops. It's all a learning experience, TFW.
