Home Brew: Vimto Cider, 7% ABV (Turbo Cider Method, Brewed in a 5 Litre Fermentation Vessel) • Making A Vimto Flavour... .
Hi folks, in this film I make an extremely simple, yet very tasty Vimto cider. This is done using the turbo coder method of adding apple juice from concentrate and a bottle of full-sugar Vimto cordial.
The recipe is as simple as follows:
1. Add four litres of apple juice from concentrate into the fermentation vessel.
2. Add a full bottle of Vimto cordial into the fermentation vessel.
3. Add a heaped teaspoonful of Bulldog Cider Yeast into the fermentation vessel.
Leave this to fully ferment until all fermentation activity ceases (this took 2 months).
The cider should clear naturally, then it can be bottled with a heaped teaspoonful of sugar, this creates a secondary bottle fermentation, which creates carbonation so that the end cider is fizzy.
The end result is a very sweet and fruity Vimto flavoured cider, which I'm really impressed with. I'll definitely make this again in future.

I've just cracked open one of mine, ended at 8.1%. Definitely better than my first turbo cider but I think 1L of vimto for 5L batch is far too much, its like when you make cordial/squash and water too strong. Going to try using Robinsons fruit fusions for my next one, maybe use like 600ml rather than 1L.

Hi Steve, yeah if I made this one again I would put less Vimto in, but with that said, I did like the flavour of it and as it was full sugar Vimto so the sugars helped the ABV and actually made it drier than it would have been if it was sugar free Vimto. I've used the fruit fusions and they've worked well every time. Good luck!!

@@MossHomeandGarden Hi Stu, coming back to the vimto cider, it tastes much better after a bit of aging but not very carbonated. I left it brew in a demijohn for about 23 days. You reckon that If I say did a 2 week brew instead it would be able to carb? Not much of a fan of still cider. Cheers.

@@globe11123 Hi Steve, how long are leaving it to carb for. I usually leave mine somewhere warm for a month, but I have found with some high ABV ciders and wines that most of the yeast has died off, so carbing can take a lot longer. It's likely down to your ABV and yeast type.

The vimto is full of preservatives which would have killed most of that yeast, which is why it took a long time to ferment and didn't carbonate much in the bottle. If you boil the vimto for 20 mins it will kill off the preservatives and ferment much quicker. Usually gets up to about 9% too
@MossHomeandGarden
@MossHomeandGarden 3 года назад
Hi Brightie Boy, not sure if you are in the Turbo Ciders For All facebook group, but there is a lot of discussion in there on this subject, with opinion equally divided. I've done it both ways now, boiling is faster, but with Vimto I actually prefer the flavour of the end product when not boiling. Cheers!

@@MossHomeandGarden No I'm not, I'll have to check it out. Only ever tried it by boiling as that's the recipe I've always used. Next time I'll try not boiling and see how it comes out 👍

Hi Stu, I just made this alongside a standard scrumpy, the scrumpy is going nuts and the vimto is hardly moving, I’m very new to this, do you know the reason it’s so slow fermenting? I’m using the same yeast and same apple juice. My scrumpy does have added sugar, is it the sugar that makes it ferment quicker? Thanks for the video, can’t wait to taste the cider 👍🏻
@MossHomeandGarden
@MossHomeandGarden 3 года назад
Hi William, the additives in the Vimto mean the yeast has a harder time establishing itself, just be patient it might take 2-3 days to get going properly, but it will go eventually.

good afternoon, I'm in the process of brewing this cheeky Vimto cider how ever I couldn't find the sugar version in Sainsburys only had the no added sugar, but is it ok to not boil it before hand? i've seen on the homebrew forums you need to? is it safe to drink after if that's the case cheers love your videos
