This handmade wooden glide bait is perhaps the coolest lure I have made so far! I love lure carving, and in this video I show you how to make a bass swim bait from scratch. I also demonstrate foiling and painting techniques that I use to make a realistic baby bass lure. Hope you enjoy it!

Bro!! This helped my confidence so much! I’ve been wanting to build my own glides but was afraid I just didn’t have the “wood skills” as I’d not seen it done before all the way through, but watching you do it has been a godsend! I stated airbrushing pre-made blanks during Covid for fun and have gotten a good gill pattern down, my ponds primary forage has been bluegill! I’ve been so afraid to try doing my own glides I’ve spent way to much $ on buying other companies high end glides to paint. Just subbed and wanted to say thanks a ton!! I hope to develop my own brand in the future as a side hustle, making and selling my own jon jon’s outdoors brand of baits. Thanks again!! jj

I really love the way you test weigh your lures. I winged my first lure, which turned out ok but it could have been better. I will be using your idea about making weights of different sizes. One question though, why do pour lead vs just gluing in the lead “pucks” that are premade?

Have you tried PVC? It is not as forgiving as wood but doesn't need to be sealed because it is impervious to water. I've made several baits with this material and it paints very nicely. It is available in the big box stores such as Lowes and HD. Look for it in the trim section.

@zimmtex 3 года назад
I haven't tried that, but I will definately check it out. Thanks!
@jerrywilson4104
@jerrywilson4104 3 года назад
You will need to take precautions when sanding this material because of the fines. A mask is a must and since it is similar to a plastic, as you sand it, the "saw dust" will adhere to you because of the static electricity you create when sanding. Have fun with it!

Hey rustyman! You can always drill a little bit of the lead out of the nose before you cover it up. You should get it slightly more buoyant than you think because fillers, foil and epoxies will add weight to the final product. Good luck to you and thanks for watching!

It's hard for me to say because I don't sell lures. I think one of a kind handmade wood lures would be quite expensive because of the time put into them. Most lure makers seem to sell resin casts. @@zimmtex Well, if you can get Correa to resign with your Stros, that'd be great. Because all signs are making me really think he's coming to my Cubs....and I just can't be having that lol No no no no. Not hating on you at all, just the team. I probably sound like an ass hole but thats not my intention. Just saying. This is getting awkward for me so, great lures man. I know I'll be learning a lot from them as I'm just getting into carving my own stuff now.

one mistake i never made again was driling into a lure that had trebles still attatched, the drill took hold of it and spun it around like mad luckily i got out of the way quick smart. seeing you hold the lure while drilling into it made me cringe so much !

We all learn from our experiences. Sometimes I catch myself doing something in a weird way to get it in frame on the camera. When I do catch it, I stop and reposition the camera instead. Thanks for watching!

You dont need to have that long of a twist wire, half of what you use in the video is plenty strong. Then you wont have to deal with interference between the hook ties and the swim joint

Thanks! I've been planning on doing a video testing pull-out strength on a variety of twist wire variables including embedment length, angle of attack and glue type. I appreciate you sharing your expertise!

I’ve NEVER mentioned safety on the internet for anything. BUT anyone have their hand tingle when he drilled the holes holding the bait?

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate your input. Because there was so much wood between me and the drill, I was not concerned. However, I agree that there are better ways to accomplish that task. Thank you for watching!

Good craftmanship. But unfortunately I couldn't see it swimming , so we have to take your world for it. Right?
