I love how informed you are when doing these interviews, it makes it much more interesting to watch. You guys are the best kind of nerds, and I love it :D Keep up the great work!
1:24 Now that you mention it, everyone here should be aware of what James Bruton is doing across the pond. Simply look up James from X-Robots. He has a working BB-8 in progress, building a Hulk Buster and has plans to build a working Ultron. 3-D printing enthusiasts will enjoy his printed working R-6 droid. I think he has free builders club plans available too. Not to mention, he found a way to 3D-Print the large sphere and drive mechanism. Tell him The Sqoou sent you and says "Hi."
+Dave Hughes Yeah but he's way over in the UK & Mike is just a few hours drive south for Tested. James did an amazing job though! I'd love to see him on here.
+Dave Hughes As much attention to detail he puts in the driving mechanism, it seems he's really lackluster in the cosmetic department, this BB-8 looks so much better than his.
I can see my friend 10nant Cosplay and his TARDIS in this video at 9:10 . This was a lot of fun to watch and very informative. What a great BB-8! Thanks!
What it requires to get rid of the wobble is a more sophisticated controller, which requires learning a little bit about PID controllers. It's hard to do outside of a course, but doable.
Just a thought, since you're unfamiliar with gyros...mount the gyro as close to either the top or the bottom as possible. The further away it is from the ball centerline, the more responsive it will be.
+killerbee256 You kidding me? It's far and away much better than most of the garbage that Hollywood churns out nowadays. And, in a strange twist, it was directed by the guy who destroyed Star Trek, J.J. Abrams.
+Tim Woodacre (Phobos Anomaly) What? It's just more of the same garaged, if a fucking cash in, rehash sequel, it's the same type of uninspired movie as ghostbusters 2 and die hard 4 etc. It's not even a particularly good rehash, creed is far better in that category.
'Ahead of the movie release' by the time this video came out, I'd already seen it- it came out at 12:01AM on the 17th(which would be about morning/midday on the 16th in America). In Australia.
ParthenonGaming You’re wrong! I don’t believe a word you’re saying! I refute your premise entirely and can say without a doubt that you’re completely full of crap! Of course that’s only because I made it a self fulfilling promise! 😉. Tee hee!
Hey, can we get another check-in with Mike Senna? His BB-8 was awesome, and I bet the club has been working like crazy since the movie came out. Posting this on two vids in hopes someone sees it. Moar robots plx?
chuckle, i've always liked devices and objects like this. they move by falling and you can make them fall endlessly by pouring energy in. or inversely you can generate energy by rolling them on the ground. ball bearings in ball bearings.
The drive could come from a maglev part-shere, say 1/4 the height, floating inside the main sphere. The latter would be lined in magnetic strips. The part-sphere could be as heavy as it's maglev system can support. It would be uncannily stable on an incline, when "parked". If Maglev is too much, hoover technology could provide the lift (smooth interface is key), while magnets would still take care of drive. On second thought perhaps the main sphere should be the active part, attracting or repelling the weight at the bottom.
I wish they made one out of aluminum and put a real projector in the holloprojector slot. Also they should have had a small hollow area in between the gyros to add the lighter and cables
I've had to make do with a life size cardboard cutout. We all want a life size BB-8 ( NON WORKING ) JUST A chunk of Chinese vacuformed plastic and I'm happy
there's a company that makes 3-d prints magnetic surfaces so that attract to a certain point, but cont actually touch called polymagnet that seems it would be perfect for something like this. check out smartereveryday's channel and search for magnets for more details. dude has an awesome channel.
I will be using your frame version for my R2D2 build. Looks like based on the movie, BB-8 moves his head on top of the silver ring and not the whole base.
Nice video! I didn't know about this droid before watching the NEW movie though so thanks for the spoilers! Couldn't you have waited at least a couple days? God damnit.
