Greetings from Queensland! Great video Hashem, you have explained the process very well and mentioned local suppliers etc that could help. I'm looking forward to viewing you other works.
Hey! Firstly, thanks for showing off my zines as examples! One, very old and super budget (ha) and, the other well made but still less serious. That's the benefit of zines, there doesn't have to be some great big idea behind it due to the smaller investment compared to a fully fledged offset printed book. Secondly, that was a great vid and I'm sure will inspire many viewers to jump into making one of their own. Love how well structured the video was, the backdrop was *chefs kiss* and, you spoke concisely which was really engaging. Great flow to it all, well done, Hashem. Makes me more motivated to revisit my next one that I've slowly been working on too! I'll also definitely be grabbing a copy of your zine soon as well.
Hey, No worries Ben! Yeah I really liked how they both served as great examples of the different ways you can go about it. I agree with what you said, they can be as simple as a scrapbook if you want. Haha thanks for the feedback on the production also, I've been using some the time in lockdown to maximise how I can shoot in the smallish space that I have. Appreciate the support as always
You are always so well spoken and informative on your channel. This one is a good one and made me have a good think about it and the views on Zines! Well done.
I really enjoyed this. This is something I've never considered doing before, but after watching your detailed video, it's certainly showed me that I would really enjoy doing this. Think I'll start by putting some ideas together for a one and maybe try and produce once at the end of the year sometime.
No worries! It gave me more flexibility to sell some locally, have more control, personalise the purchases (especially with the preorder rounds; free prints, notes, etc) and it worked out cheaper as well
Ahhh that Canon QL-17 again. I still want to find one that's in great condition. Although having said that, the one I got with the lens in poor condition (that the seller told me to just keep even though they gave me a refund) only seemed to have a bad effect on a couple of shots from the first roll I put through it. But I've seen enough from this one that they are very nice to use so it's worth getting one in better condition. There's another roll I shot with it at Point Lonsdale and Portarlington last year that I'll have to remember to post to Film Never Die (or maybe I'll try the place you keep mentioning this time). Given the built in light meter doesn't work either and I had my crazy dog with me that day it will be a miracle if any of them turned out well - ha ha! As for printing, I really like the Blurb trade books for my annual photo books. I haven't tried their proper photo books though.
Hope you do! Or perhaps your copy can be fixed, sounds like it's not a complete dud. The lens can often be cleaned depending on how far gone it is. Same with the meter, maybe just a bad connection (is it not working at all?) Anyway, maybe the results from your second roll will tell more. Film Never Die are doing a $7 promo at the moment ( I think) so it could be a good time to send it over :-D
@@pushingfilm no definitely not. The level of scratching on the lens is very noticeable and I've already pulled it completely apart myself but the fungus has gone deep into the glass and can't be cleaned off. Light meter is also definitely completely dead - I used my dad's very old hand held one instead.
Indeed it is hard to find the time sometimes! But the great thing is you can just chip away at it a little bit at a time like I did. Perhaps a second edition of the old one would a an easier way to get back into it too? :-)
@@pushingfilm Yeah thats true, started a project taking portraits of strangers on the street with my TLR in january 2020 (shot 2 rolls before lockdowns started)…. Might pick that up again soon and see if its zine worthy
Hi Paulo, sorry to hear that, I will make sure to correct the situation. I definitely sent it back in March, so will investigate further. If it was lost I'll make sure to refund. Can you reply to one of my order confirmation emails so that I have this on alert? Thanks!
