I made a crib using your design for my grandson, it came out great. I started by doing a solids model in SolidWorks of the full crib that I would be more than willing to give you if you want it. Please let me know.

I made a crib a long time ago and it has served all of my kids. Mine is red oak and has so many mistakes and such but it was one of my earliest projects! I still have it in storage and perhaps it will serve grand kids one day. Excellent build and beautiful crib! Chris
Nice Work! I like the brass rods. I made four crib-bed combos for my grand kids. (I think you have seen them) I figured they could take them with them when they started their own families. Yes the spindles are the worse part. I can't believe they held a straight edge so you could turn them. I ended up throwing about a fifth of mine away. Actually kept them for other projects...you never know.
Love the vid and the crib looks awesome. You could probably use a "shop chimp" for help - maybe a helper - like Jay Bates.. :). I wish I had the access to Walnut like you do. The most exotic wood I can get is Red Oak... BTW - Very cute kid.
Matt, do the brass pins go completely through the leg? Not sure if you were leaving them proud in order to pull them out with a pair of pliers. Thanks, great work.
They go all the way through. Leaving them proud as some more visual interest and I can prefinish all the part without having to worry about flushing up the pins. Thanks!
Nothing better than making something for someone you love (made a clock for my wife this Christmas). Something worth noting....there are certain sounds that are extremely fulfilling to the human ear: the sound of a basketball hitting nothing but net, the click of a fine camera as the shuttler opens/closes, and now, the sound of your son's voice as he looks at you and coos. I audibly gasped at the sound your tenon made as it slipped into the mortise. Nice work Matty!
You may never build a crib again but you could consider building something with lots and lots of spindels.. ;-) Anyhow, hard work pays off, doesn't it. Enjoyed the series big time Matt!
Great Job Matt, that is one lucky kiddo. I like your treatment with the spindles and the contrasting colors. That is going to be a family heirloom. Nicely done "dovetail master" ;) PDMC!
You are awesome man. That crib is amazing. It's a shame he'll only use it for a few years! Well worth it though. I guess baby Cremona 2 has a place to sleep as well.
Finally! Been waiting ages for this. Why did you choose to create a tenon on the spindles and not just slide them into the rails as is? Looks amazing Matt, really enjoyed the video
Beautiful work. Great job on the recording and editing of the video as well; that must have taken many many hours on its own to produce. Very nice to watch.
Beautiful work, Matt! Honestly there are no words to describe the beauty within this piece of furniture especially since it was for your son. I'm sure a whole lotta love went into this as well. :)
hello, Matthew. love the crib. i am currently building a crib and your video helped a lot. i was wondering what you used for the thread tap? just a standard one? or is it made for wood?if so where can i get one thanks!
Hey, standing on your projects to test there strength is all about testing. When I make tables, coffee tables, or TV stands, I stand on them and I'm 6'3 266lbs. So if it can hold me I know it can hold a TV.
Did you publish the basic dimensions on this crib anywhere, Matt? I will probably be building a crib at some point in the next year or so and absolutely love the way yours turned out. Thinking I'll just buy Walnut dowels though, hah, those spindles looked like a lot of work!
I love this wood working book “Bαzοmο Tdy Plαn” (Google it). Some of the topics outlined in the book include woodwork tactics, description on the growth cycles of trees, and various lumber features that craftsmen favor. I actually had to get a 2nd copy for my father. .
Did you have any issues with the walnut "whiskering"? I am building a walnut crib now also and had a few issues of the grain raising. Also, what finish did you use?
I remember reading something Christopher Schwartz wrote stating that you should use lumber that you cut directly or it will warp. Do you have any idea why that would be? I love this build. Great job and thanks for sharing.
I just found out I'm gonna be a grandpa. Thank you for this video. Its beautiful. Great for ideas that I want to use. 👍🏻👍🏻 wow mind blowing job. I cant do everything you did. I dont have the tools. But amazing work. I hope you make good money off what you do. You deserve it.
Matt, is there any way please please please you can have some sort of plans for this crib? I am fairly new at woodworking and I don't have most of the tools you have. Although you are very detailed at your videos, a simple rough draft would be a tremendous help. I only have 5 months to build a crib (before am too big to stand haha) so any help is great. Thanks as always and keep the good work.
Hey Matt, great work. In case you care / are interested, something that may improve your video quality is music that is a layer beneath the rest of the audio. Something like this would add a lot of production quality, especially when there are moments when there isn't any sound. Hope you have a great day!
Man, that's a lot of work! I can't imagine ever having the patience to finish a project of this magnitude in the short amount of time that it's needed. My son would be graduating from high school before I finished it for him. That's cool that it can be adapted to be used as a bed in the future.
Thank you! Yes, the mattress can be positioned anywhere along the legs by drilling and tapping new holes. It's currently set to the same depth as his bassinet.
Matthew Cremona I was trying to figure out how do the socket cap screws work in holding the mattress frame? Are you actually drilling the holders to the posts and securing with these cap screws?? Or was something else deviced?
FANTASTIC project. I'm always amazed by some of the simplest solutions to the challenges (such as the tenons on the angled rails. Nicely done. BTW, it looks like you're not making much use of your X-carve based on how it's piled high in this video...wanna send it my way? ;)
Great build Matt. I couldn't help but wonder where you learned all these techniques for milling, making jigs, and assembling techniques. Your work processes for woodworking is amazing and quite practical. Thanks so much for sharing.
What a beautiful, cherubic baby you and Lindsay (Lindsey?) made! Crib looks great...I love the metal pins, and walnut is always a classy and classic choice of wood. Nice to "overbuild" it to support the weight of an adult.
Thank you! Lindsay is a great mom :) I figure when he's big enough to be jumping up and down in there the support structure needs to be able to handle that abuse. Plus, it's been nice for all of us to climb in there and hang out with him
This crib is pretty awesome. I love that a lot of your projects are built from trees that you milled yourself (something that I want to eventually do). its gotta be satisfying building something your own children will use.
Thank you! I'd say the most satisfying was the bassinet. Probably because that's in our bedroom and I got to see my son sleeping in it every day as I woke up.
Hi, I just recently came across your channel when looking for tips on inlaying Dutchmans. Since then I've watched many more videos and subscribed to your channel. Great Stuff! Where did you get the plans for this crib build? Or did you come up with the plan?
Thank you Craig! I designed it based on a picture of one my wife liked. I used that picture and the CSPC guidelines for cribs to come up with the final plan.
Hey Matt, Great Video and Work. Can you tell us what the finish was again? I'm sure it is "kid safe", It looks great and I'd like to use it on other furniture. Does it have any UV protection ?
absolutely loved the crib. I have to add that being a mom myself (my kids are grown now), your little boy is adorable. Happy, cheerful babies come from happy parents. You do such incredible work and its a pleasure to watch you create such astounding works of art!!
Thank you so much Debra! Seeing this again, it's incredible how much he's changed since we recorded this 4 months ago. He's so much more animated and happy now :)
If everyone pursued this level of quality in their own projects, we'd probably have a case of world peace breaking out. I built a crib some years ago, i thought it was beautiful and well made, but after seeing this I realise mine was just a bunch of sticks. Very clever to design it to be bed heads later on. 10/10.
Nice work! I really enjoy your videos and attitude. You made the spindle sanding look easy. Then I remembered that was one of 50, lol. How long before you stopped seeing them in your sleep?
