Right! My little 12-16"wide dry creek bed had #2 rocks,and they all pretty much washed away when it rained a lot one night! That water flow was much larger & faster than mine was!

The main issue isn't erosion in this case but the size of the stones used. I think that no matter how eroded are those stones they may eventually get washed out in case of a major rain event with strong water current...These stones look too small to me, more squarish and most importantly bigger stones might be more suitable for this purpose...but who knows, maybe they don't get those big rain events over there, but the big size of that drainage pipe seems to indicate otherwise...

Sorry, I don't think it is. Helpful would be if we could see how it turned out with the water actually flowing in the creek. A follow up video a few months later would be helpful.

Thanks, nice thoughtful comments. Yes, I would have loved to implement some larger stone and more physical drainage, but I wasn't in the cards here. Project was divided into half appearance and half function. Unfortunately both ends up giving up some on the final result.

Agreed. Water flowing through that area with the amount of force that it can move with, could easily wash the smaller rocks downstream at a much faster rate than some people may believe. A square yard (36×36×36), can move with a force of 1,700 pounds. That's a lot of force! I'm not saying that a gentle Rain would do a lot of harm, but if you get a Severe Weather Event, such as prolonged flooding, or even a Severe Thunderstorm with a lot of Rain, then conditions can change rapidly! It'd be better to use larger rocks for that drainage area, as opposed to small stuff like this!

Just a thought... Might have to secure it with some wire mesh or something similar.

Need larger stone. Likewise the water will move these. Very light stone for that much water.

Cobble stones, river stones that were round and smooth will erode in time sir, as one contractor said who also do this kind of thing. He used those black, square stones/rocks, sorry, I dont know the name of those stones but they were black, square and bigger than these river stones/cobble stones. Just thinking of all these small stones getting stuck in that pipe under the road, Im worried.

Vera loc wall blocks with pins if you need a true retaining wall that would definitely be a job for a pro. Larger the stones the better if your budget and back can handle it!

@@ColumbusLandscapers hello, I have a large drainage hole where the water runs off the road into my yard, the drainage goes for about 140’. I need to fill in that drainage hole to bring up the where the water will actually drain effectively. My neighbors, god bless them, thought they could help so they dumped some broken up block in the hole. Do you have any suggestions as to what we should put there so that I can stop the erosion going on around it and get the drainage working properly again? I need to bring it up approx 3 ‘. So far about 600.00 of rip rap and 3” gravel has washed away. I need any and all suggestions please.

Yes, water will seep through fabric. It's NOT recommend to use plastic. Generally fabric is you best choice in situations like this. Good luck with your project. If you want a non-permiable.. consider a pond liner.

You want to go to a landscape supply house, or a nursery. It's a woven material very much like cloth rather than a plastic type material.

Landscaping fabric you can get at a local hardware store.

What you see there IS straw blanket that HAS netting built in for the precise reasons you mention.

The rocks will settle into the mud, also you'll get growth in the rocks that would eventually take over. Thanks for watching!!

The straw blanket helps to hold the seed from erosion.

That option was discussed with the customer. This option was chosen by them.. mostly for aesthetic reasons. Yes, there's definitely some ongoing mentions issues to address, and they didn't implement all of my recommendations with bigger stones. To break and control the water flow. I have this same scenario but with far less the amount of water. I begged the City to allow me to pay to have a 8-10" pipe buried and backfilled to allow me to plant grass over top. No-o-o. "It's a 'wetland'," they said. "Can't be altered." BUT, I'm required to "maintain it," keeping it free of tall weeds, clogging or pooling, and generally looking like crap. Government at work 'protecting' nothing.
