honestly bro, almost all the people I REALLY like on this site are all from over there some where. American content creators are...... childish? Is maybe the word.... Or they tell you how to do a task with $5,000+ worth of tools. Over there they still seem to have pockets of "the ways" our grandfathers let die out. I'd gladly over-pay this man to let my son and I work under him for a summer just to learn HOW to do enough to actually get by in life.
I hope younger generations will realise more and more that all this technology stuff has come with certain losses, unless we dedicate effort to keep them alive (and relevant).
@@helgavanovich7611 Surely you are swooning for our man, here!? He said it himself, he is spoiled for choice with his abundance of Ash. You never know, one day, he may pick you!
"today we'll be using something that has brought far more grief upon humanity, the coping saw." As a woodworker who does a lot of joinery and trim coping, I felt that comment in my very soul.
Quest accepted: Buy yourself a cheap axe head and practice handle-making Requirements: - Axe head - Ash wood - Froe to split the wood - Mallet & chisel - Spoke shape
They have been striking some videos that show magazines being put into weapons... Literally putting a mazine in a weapon was the issue... I am not surprised.
Even better, they take down gun videos showing how to properly check if your gun is chambered. They only let you show it firing but hate to show gun safety.
Can we please get the liberals and snowflakes out of RU-vid's offices Channels are set up for older audiences but they're still struck with a warning saying "ThAt'S nOt ChILd FrIeNdLy"
God I love working with ash! It breaks so straight and leaves such a smooth surface when freshly split. That's what I use for most handles these days since we have tons of them around here and the ash beatles are killing them off. It makes good fire wood in the instance, but also great handles that are lightweight and look great.
I just built my first handle for my dad's old broken ball pin hammer he gave me. It's not the prettiest things, but my dad wanted his now fixed hammer back after he saw what I did.
Keep it going, re handling tools is a dying art, you can get tons of hammer, and axe, and shovel heads for cheap or free, and sell them with new handles. p.s. it is Ball Peen hammer, for peening over things like rivets.
@@bigbossimmotal I'll try looking into that. Could be good practice for some small projects involving wood work I want to start, to help my parents around their house. Also, thanks for the correction. More to learn. 😅
I always hear about that ash borer but I've never seen it take any ash trees in my area. It's supposed to be in the county but my yard is covered in ash trees that are perfectly healthy. Elm on the other hand is getting wiped out, and good riddance.
In Ireland our ash is being killed off slowly due to ash die back disease. It's sad but I believe work is being done to breed and try get a mutation to fight the ash die back.
I would love nothing more than to come stay with you for a week and have you show me these things firsthand. The workings of a not-so-long-ago but already forgotten era.
Something about an Irish woodworker give me a sense of joy. I really do enjoy your content despite me not being involved in woodworking some of your tips really do come in handy when the situation presents itself
@@thisgoddamusernamestoodamnlong I think lignum vitae is the best. You don't even notice it dulling all your carbide as you work it. But alas, it's on the no export list, and if you buy some, it's fake LV that won't even sink in water.
Are we really not allowed to see the axe hitting the willow? Is this to avoid facebook getting edgy? What's the world coming to? Seriously though really good video.
This dude started minecraft, found a chest with a few iron ingots in it in the middle of a forrest village, and never left. Noone told him he could dig and find upgrades. And he's still 99% better than other players.
There’s no primary reason, but Eoin reminds me of a young JackSepticeye, and his content makes me feel like a kid again, and I’m more than grateful for that!
I've made 3 ash axe handles with not many proper tools, just whatever hand tools I had and they are beautiful and have lasted for years, and same as you I started with a tree I'd felled for firewood, pretty amazing seeing a quarter of a split log turned into a beautiful useful tool! Nice looking handle btw! mine is much darker now from linseed oil and years of dirty hands but the grain alignment is right so good luck breaking them. Great video
I was about 8 years old when I witnessed my uncle putting an axe head on. Seeing him hit it upside down with nothing to brace against it seemed like all kinds of witchcraft when it not only didn't fall off, but got tighter on the shaft lol. It wasn't until a few years later that I understood the physics behind it but it was still baffling to me at the time.
It's so lovely watching your channel because now you're using that coping saw I watched you restore and oh there's that wooden mallet I watched you rebuild and on and on. So satisfying. Must be even nicer to work with those pieces.
ash has got to be one of the best woods ever. you can split it with a butter knife. it dries well, burns green when needed and it grows straight. I absolutely love ash, I managed to split four cord in one afternoon with my father years ago. we couldn't even split ONE cord of spruce 😭 that's how easy it can be.
i quite like your voice & the way you describe everything as you do it- thank you for the effort not only put in the craft, but making it into a cozy short !
I love woodworking.....but the other day my spokeshave fell on concrete and broke.....hard to find these days. This lad is great to watch and the wooden handle won't carry the vibration to you arm like the fiberglass.
Now there are other influences why I've gotten more into wood working. But you're the main reason. And the main reason I got a froe. Gotta say I love the girl. Thanks mate!
