If it weren’t for Pokémon go, I would probably use an iPhone 5 or 5s as my daily driver. Using old Apple devices is such a great feeling and they are also so much smaller and lighter.
@@comradeuro4255 Still a bit expensive and big for me, also it would be hard to find one a jailbreakable version. Also it doesn’t have the “retro” factor
The iPhone 4 style was my favorite by far. I had the 4S and loved it after apple moved to the all metal backs I stopped buying iPhones and moved on to android for a time, I got the note 9 as it was glass on the front and rear with metal edge just as the 4S. Then apple released the SE 2020 with metal and glass with the classic home button I picked one up in the first week and have been using it everyday. This video was just right.
This channel perfectly captures that nostalgia I have for these old Apple devices. I grew up with my dad having all the newest iPhones at the time, I remember being so blown away by how sharp the screen was on the 4 and how cool it was to see yourself with the front facing camera. I used to play loads of old games like Fruit Ninja and this one game that i can't remember the name of (you throw paper balls into a bin in like an office sort of setting, it was really fun) Great times they were indeed, time flies x) We'll probably look back at these times we have now in the future and just wonder how far tech has come.
I've got iPhone 4 with iOS 7 but jailbroken it and installed 6.1.3 with dualboot Cydia app. 6.1.3 was best at that time and it can be seen as "true" iOS that started to change rapidly after iOS 7. I use it for fun to play "oldschool" games like old Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja etc. It's an amazing device and with how easy battery can be swapped to new im suprised these are still cheap as hell.
@@GalaxyGamer-qn1mv It's very easy, remove bottom screws, slide back glass up, screw battery cable off, use pull tab to get battery out. And install the new one and do the opposite.
i still have the 1st iPad from 2010 , jailbroken and it still rocks. back then i decided to backup all the ipa for this ipad and im super glad how worth while it was, can still play all the classic games on it, and twitter , reddit and OG youtube works.
Please make a downgrade video, that would be awesome! I don't have an iPhone 4 but I would probably buy one if I could downgrade it to iOS 4. Awesome video man!
I used an iPhone 4 as my daily driver for _many_ years (up until last weekend, actually); I had it on iOS 7.1.2, jailbroken (yes it was slow but it worked). I had Twitter, Minecraft, Instagram, RU-vid, Discord all working, my music library synced, all of my e-mail accounts loaded, iMessage working, etc. The battery somehow lasted over multiple days (2 days with normal use, sometimes 4-5 when I barely turned it on (in standby)), so even for a 12 year old phone, it worked well for me. I upgraded to an iPhone 12 mini which I updated to iOS 16 this morning. It's insanely fast, has a much better camera, better screen (not such a fan of how big the phone is though), and like a million other features that take a bit of getting used to but are generally nice QoL improvements. I never upgraded from my 4 as it did all that I needed it to, and having an up-to-date phone wasn't my biggest concern exactly. I'm still getting used to my 12 and it's quirks from a nine-versions-newer OS and the lack of my beloved jailbreak tweaks and personalisation, but I like it. The battery on the 12 mini when new is roughly equivalent to my 4 when it was around the age of 10 years old, but I'll let that pass given all the extra computationally-demanding stuff newer phones do these days. The iPhone 4 served me well for the 12 years I had it. Hopefully I can drag this 12 mini through the next decade as well, lol. :P
I just can't see how you could use iP4 until now ? I would believe you can use iP4S. I know it doesn't seem like a big difference but iP4S is just way more powerful and actually the camera is at least usable in comparison to iP4.
Wow thats a big jump! I went from a 6s to an 11 and it took some time getting used to not having the home button and having the notch. But after a short while I got used to it.
@@Romif_SK The 4S runs iOS 9.3.6 I believe. It's certainly faster and more up-to-date than the 4, but my needs didn't require anything more than what iOS 7 could give me - so I stayed on the 4.
Wow how surprisingly, did you also got Spotify working or not? Because I also have my iPhone 4 here laying around and now after that video I also want to try that out :)
@@djpronic I prefer a local music library, rather than streaming - so I don't use Spotify. Spotify definitely does have versions from the time of the iPhone 4 so I would definitely say that you _can_ get Spotify on there - I just don't know if/what else there is that you need to get it working, sorry.
I was using a 6s plus until recently, legit still does the job after years of newer iPhone models being released. It’s insane how reliable iPhones are compared to other phones.
Still using my 6s, not a problem in six years and a few months since launch. Of course the glass was broken a few times, and the battery is now at 70% of usability, but don’t have any plans to buy another. Hoping IOS 15.7 give him at least two more years of use before apps start shutting down. So if everything goes well, i should buy Iphone 16. 😅
iPhone six is considered old?!?! I didn’t know that. Im an artist and have been drawing and animating on my 6s for months. A year before I was using my iPhone 5 but the phone screen cracked
I love staying on old iOS versions, it just sucks that some apps I kinda need require newer versions and some websites don’t load correctly which is very annoying.
I am mostly not too bothered what phone I have as long as it has plenty of onboard storage and will receive updates for a good while! As excited as I am to get an iPhone 14 Pro soon, I am mainly getting it because it has 1TB onboard storage and it will be the last iPhone to have a Lightning port and a physical SIM slot. I may sound a bit cheap for having got my iPhone 5 back in the day shortly after the 5S and 5C came out but I was still stuck with a 3GS, I needed a phone I could use iOS 7 on and money was a bit tight. Apple could announce a new iPhone with the same display technology as they used in the late 2000s and a basic camera but I'd still pick that as my next phone if it at least had a new (enough) processor, 1TB (maybe even 2TB) onboard storage and was guaranteed to keep getting updates for at least 4 years!
Looking back it’s actually amazing that they fit all of that technology in such a small form factor. Obviously we’ve gone along way but it was amazing at the time.
with modern tech they could probably make it very powerful and keep the form factor. maybe even match battery life with the iPhone 13 mini, if since it those big bezels and the small screen
@@ZverseZ definitely possible for them to fit certain tech into that body. Of course it would have to be a bit thicker but if unihertz can fit a headphone jack on a 3 inch phone as well as a big battery and charging port. Apple has no excuses.
@@dani12361 The Unihertz Jelly 2 had major overheating problems because it was a bit too small. Heat makes lithium batteries lose power quickly, making the jelly's small battery supply even smaller. However unihertz definitely made the right move with the headphone jack, these usb-c adapters are annoying to deal with and stupid expensive. And I don't enjoy my battery dying on bluetooth devices
@@ZverseZ I’m only using it as a reference the jelly is way smaller than the iphone 4. I’m just saying if unihertz can do that then so can Apple. Btw all phones and electronic devices heat up with heavy use. That’s kind of what they do…
@@dani12361 My jelly 2 was overheating running angry birds for 20 minutes, within 2 hours it was dead I can understand to some level all devices heat up but that's a complaint I've seen across the internet. Maybe if it had a more expensive processor it could've handled it Edit: anyways I'm getting off topic, I definitely agree that the only reason modern smartphones (especially tablets) got rid of the headphone jack was to sell their overpriced wireless earbuds
It is definitely my favorite iPhone. It was compact and had a good heft to it that I liked. Also one of the most repairable Iphone's ever. If you had basic skills in repairing phones that phone will pretty much never completely die lol. I'm going to buy one and have it as a dedicated media player or something, they're dirt cheap nowadays.
@@speedbrain666 I have 4S as well with that 9.3.6. Version. I wonder how it can be used smoothly. Even RU-vid doesn't open, it keeps buffering even though we have Verizon 5G wifi at home!
I daily a jailbroken iPhone 5 until last month when I got myself a secondhand iPhone 12 Pro. For a phone that was a decade old it’s pretty nifty. Didn’t plan to fully retire that ol’ beauty too, since it’s still a fantastic second modem and an iPod, among other things.
I still use it as my "jogging phone". My music is locally stored in it. I just switch my SIM card to it and I'm off to jog. It has a headphone jack so I can use inexpensive earbuds or pair it with Bluetooth headphones if I ever get a pair. It's light and small enough that it's not slapping against me when running..
SMS and calls. That's all you need for a phone. All those social media apps and mobile games are the main reason why you are distracted. That's why I pulled out my old iPhone 4 again. Had to downgrade it though since iOS 7 is an eyesore for me :P
This old iOS and macOS interface design was so beautiful, lively and original, as in your video. Some icons on iPhone were like candies. Not to mention previous Windows versions before Windows 10. Sick of seeing this plain stupid, cheap looking, soulless flat design trend absolutely everywhere. Fortunately, trends are cyclical.
My all time favorite is the iPhone 5. The combination between its shape, top power button and screen size is just perfect! Although it kinda competes with the iPhone 4 which has the glass back panel.
it kinda blows my mind that people still havent figured out away install a custom os to older iphones, simalar to how linux could be a nice way to give older computers a new life, instead of throwing them into land fills..
I have a tethered iPhone 4 running 4.1 but the jailbreak tweaks don’t work for whatever reason. Also I need an untethered version, I really can’t stand the tether boot you do every single time you shut it off! I have a late 2014 Mac mini with Mac OS big sur, will it still work with my iPhone 4?
I agree. They’ve discontinued the Mini line, but i’m willing to bet that they’ll transfer it over to the new SE line of phones in the future for a lower price. It would be cool to have 3D touch on them, and then add like a virtual home button on the screen if they want to keep it. My dream iPhone really.
Bigger displays don't put so much strain on your eyesight though, so I guess you can do whatever you want, but just take into consideration that as you get older, you'd wish you wore a device with a larger screen instead.
I still have my 64GB iPhone 4s. I use it exclusively as an iPod and with my old 30-pin connector stuff. I had a 30 GB iPod 5.5 prior, but the drive was dying so I recovered the music on it onto my former iPhone instead. Had to get a new battery for it last week, tho (it was manufactured in 2012 and turned spicy pillow in 2022, I'd call that a good run). Otherwise it's still in mint condition thanks to the Ballistic Tough Jacket case and tempered glass screen protector. Luckily, when the original battery swelled up, the plastic frame separated from the glass back, allowing the original back glass to bend and not break. Took all of a day to go from normal sleek iPhone to fully ballooned out of it's case. Cell was still stable, holding charge and reporting good health right until the swelling, too.
When Steve Jobs was alive iOS was better then android now he has died which is sad the iPhone community wanna be the same without him but this has happened
I use my iPhone 4 to play my old, nostalgic games. Since Apple removed the ability to download old games in iOS 11, and my iPhone 4 is on iOS 7, I can play my old games on the phone.
Kindly make a video about opening the country code/ carrier code. For example, if we have bought it from USA and then move to any other country like India/Pakistan/Bangladesh then how to make it operational for the sim cards there??
How did he get iBeer (the original one) and other older version Apps like Shazam? I can't seem to download them, even with the famous arm64 solution or the Checkmate, Store! tweak. My my iPhone runs iOS 6.
It would be the perfect navigation device: small, robust and handy. But unfortunately there are no offline navigation app that are still supporting iOS 4 or 5. Such a shame!
Some important Apps in iPhone won’t work unless you update the app the problem is the newer the iOS the slower the phone becomes (lag) apple does that to force you to buy their ne’er phones
The biggest problem with these is the lack of WhatsApp messenger, which is essential in Finland (in Europe?). EVERYBODY, I literally mean everybody from a 4-year old to a 80-year-old granny are using it. Even companies for product information etc. Otherwise I would be rockin' an iPhone 4S.
can you actually make a video tutorial for the untethered downgrade for iphone4? i have tried multiple methods but nothing works for me. I would really appreciate that, and im sure others would too!
If you're on Windows, you can just use Windows 11 because Microsoft never removes old stuff from Windows for "compatibility" (like we can't just setup a vm if we need it so much). Note: Also this is half the reason Windows is a one fat piece of garbage most times.
Switched to Iphone SE 2016 as my daily and only device this summer. Feels cool after so many years with android phones. I also like that i can use it completely with one hand!
The iphone 5 was the best looking phone EVER designed. I still have one, and cant ever go without one. The 4 in my opinion doesnt look anywhere as good
my sister still has an iphone 4 lol, and whenever she plays gta5 and the lady in a bikini with an iphone 4 or 5 i pull out my sisters phone and pose lol!
The iPhone 4S was my first phone ever (got it in 2013, time flies!) and it’s still my favorite phone. Its size was perfect for my hands and pockets. When the iPhone 13 mini came out I was ecstatic until I found it that it was still much bigger than the iPhone 4 and 5 models. I wish 3G was still around so I could use that old device :,(.
I think my friend has an iPhone 7 but whatever iPhone it is it still has a home button but doesn't have a headphone jack and it looks so outdated compared to my modern Android phone.
I'm mostly not that bothered what phone I have as long as it has plenty of onboard storage, will receive updates for a good while, and runs decently well. I do have a few iPhones, mainly the iPhone 3G, 4S and 6 Plus. I had very good memories with all 3 of them. However, unfortunately, 2 of them (iPhone 3G & 6 Plus) are now broken (The iPhone 3G has a broken screen, and the iPhone 6 Plus is bricked). However, I should note that iPhones weren't my cup of Joe, with most of my old phones running Android, and unfortunately, it's very difficult to operate an Android phone with Android 4.4 and under (or in the case of Android 2.3 and earlier, nearly impossible). I'm surprised such an old iPhone, like the iPhone 4 released in 2010 can be somewhat operable, yet most Android phones from 2014 and earlier are almost unusable.
Well The checkmate store doesn't seems to work because it still asking me to buy and ended up saying "Cannot connect to iTunes Store". Do I have to use vpn or something or other tweaks from Cydia? Yeah I'm only still using iOS 9 on my iPad 2. Also I still need some tweaks that lets you access modern web or fully access any social media.
Apple should fr make like an IPhone SE Nano, which pretty much would look like the iPhone 3G / 2G with other variants such as the IPhone SE Nano Plus which would look like the IPhone 4, the difference is they would all run later IOS
we don't own our phones. Big corps built things to be slow so we forcefully buy new shit we already have and functions well but unfortunately the "updates" kills the phones same goes to other stuff like computers, cars, light bulbs etc.
Please make an easy way to downgrade this phone Please!!! I updated my to iOS 7 now its kind of slow so I want to downgrade I tried some other videos but I always get an error :( please make a tutorial on how to downgrade I will subscribe for sure :)
I also collect older iPhones and have downgraded a few iPhone 4S’s but I cannot seem to downgrade the 4. I know it’s possible but I just don’t know how.
4s is a great phone for listening to long format RU-vid vids because it can run with screen turned off. Audio only. Maybe we should all spend less time on these stupid phones.
i rememebr when i had an iphone 2g when i was a kid and everyone had like iphone 4s and when i got a 4s everyone got a iphone 5c or iphone 6s or iphone 6s+ etc and i was always annoyed cause of the fact all these cool apps i wanted to use i couldnt like whatsapp snapchat heck even flappybirds so it was annoying but now im happily on a iphone 11 running any app i want and the latest IOS
