Interesting I made one from a stainless-steel Thermos bottle as an experiment. I used the same stainless steel scrubber material. It clogs up after a few months mostly from moisture, not oil. It works extremely well. I would not try a finer steel wool. That unit this large, so the oil fumes and moisture are traveling slowly and will easily cling to that fat steel wool type material. I think a finer steel wool would get contaminated much faster. Mine gets pretty gross in a few months so I just replace the mesh. Nice work. I bought a larger, 33 oz Ozark Trail stainless steel thermos at Walmart and I'm attaching the two fittings. Amazing, that the thermos was only ten bucks. My two fittings are two PCV valves and I gutted the insides of them. These made to nice, 90 degree fittings which I'm going to JB weld in place. Once again, great idea.
Good luck, I made one about a year ago, its always worked catching a bit of oil but lately its working incredible so I don't know whats happened. There's more power when needed than ever and there is no soot at the tail pipe and its not burning any oil.Its smaller than yours and its a self drainer too. Goes on a 3 liter Isuzu.
