The Mini Necessary Clutch Wallet
In my last video I made a pretty Emily Tote by www.moremeknow.com. Of course I had to make a wallet to match. So here it is! I've already done tutorials on this wallet but what's one more right?! lol
Vinyl and waterproof canvas were both purchased from www.fabricwholesaledirect.com
Fabric for the flap was purchased at Joanns and was interfaced with Decovil Light purchased from www.gotinterfacing.com. Just gotta say that her interfacing is the BEST ever! You're gonna love it!!!!
The magnetic snap was purchased through Amazon but Lauren over at www.moremeknow.com also has them and they are better quality.
Zipper tape and pull was purchased from My Handmade Space on Etsy.
My machine is a Juki du1181n and is a beast! I'd recommend Sunny Sewing Machines if you're looking at buying one.
Double sided tape was purchased at www.wawak.com It's a double sided leather tape.

Hi, new subbie here. This is my new favourite wallet and I have made a couple so far, so thank you soooooo much for simplifying it! Also thanks for showing the card slot trick and rivets, I had a hard time getting card slots straight and sewing those sides at the end. Love your tutorial. I have the same problem with zipper pulls sometimes. Looking forward to trying your card slot method - I've made them in waterproof canvas but they are so thick when folded this is a much better method.

wow it turned out great Ren, they look good together ,and please keep chatting when your not doing a live, it wouldnt be the same without it, oh and I like the idea of saying your machine name and the pattern your doing , you dont have to repeat it when you do your lives

I made my first mini yesterday and it was a bit of a disaster. 😂😂. But everyday is a school day so I’ll learned from it and move on to the next one. 😜😜

Ren Puffinberger I think I cut my fabric wrong and it didn’t sit nicely at all. I don’t have a river press and my machine wouldn’t cope with the thick seams there so it’s kinda “spring loaded” as my husband called it. 😂😂. Also I think I bought a dodgy batch of magnetic clasps that don’t work together. The male part is far too short and the magnet is rubbish. Hey ho it’s something I’ll learn from. I’ll definitely have another go but will use different magnetic clasps and thinner material that my basic machine will like better. 😃😃😃

Ren Puffinberger I used your technique for the card slots and I love that technique. Will definitely be using that but maybe use interfaced cotton 🤔

Well bummer. I have not tried my technique with my domestic. I’m sure it’s a bit much for it. So sorry it went badly for you. I’ve gotten a bad batch of snaps also and it’s extremely frustrating.

You have really inspired me. I had thought, because I had made several NCW s that they were just to difficult for me to make neatly, that I would never attempt one again. After watching you make the mini and the regular sizes, I tried again. They ( I made both ) turned out great! Thank you! How about a zippered NCW? Thanks again!

Beautiful work! What size were the rivets, please? Do you remember even though this was filmed, or at least posted, a few years ago... I'm not sure I'm using the correct rivet sizes in my work 😁

Could I ask please, when you do the card slots the 'normal' way, one slot is a bit higher than the other if you know what i mean, so 1 card is standing up abve the one in front, but when you do your version what stops the cards from slipping right down inside the slot? Aso would this work with ordinary quilting cotton that only has interfacing on it, or must it always be a vinyl like the one you used. I enjoyed your video very much and learnt a lot but might have to make one your way to see if it works for me. By the way i am in the UK and have made three minis and numerous larger NCW and am always looking for ways to make things work easier and quicker!

Well, when making the mini NCW (my version), once the wallet has been constructed and is folded up and finished..they just work lol. I’m not sure how to explain it but it just works out lol. Now it’s different with the original size NCW. I construct the bigger wallet differently, otherwise the cards will slip down into the slots. Are you asking if quilting cotton would work on the card slots doing my method? I haven’t tried but I would say no. Because you would have to have quilting cotton on both sides of the card slot pieces. If that makes sense. Waterproof canvas doesn’t need a finished back to it because of its texture. Cotton does. I’d suggest you make one using my method with waterproof canvas for the lining pieces. You can use cotton for the exterior pieces with interfacing like the regular pattern calls for. I just like the waterproof canvas for the lining. It gives the wallet structure without having to cut cotton AND interfacing and then ironing it to the cotton and so on. Saves time and money. Makes the construction go so much faster and easier. 😊

You’re very welcome. If you have a Walmart near you, I have purchased waterproof canvas there. It isn’t as thick as from fabric wholesale direct online but it does work the same and I still use it often.

Yes! I do make a small stitch line in the center to sew it to the zipper pocket. Watch it all the way through. It does seem odd to think that the top card won’t slip down. But I’ve made a ton of these and it doesn’t lol.

That would be 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 for the larger one. The medium one is 8 x 5 1/2 and the smaller one is 7 x 5 1/2.

I don’t get that ASMR stuff at all so my vote would be if you wanted to do a video but had too much going on in the background then you could do like you said and “premiere” “ it so you could answer questions. Also your rivets were what size and I did see you got your press from Gold Star and did you get it recently? So glad I found you, great video!!! TYFS
