So these look nice and I like the tops for sure, but those are not stable benches. You need some kind of bracing between the front and back legs at the mid point, bottom, or diagonally to prevent racking when force is applied from the front or back. Additionally a stringer across the underside of the bench between the two sets of legs would do a lot to provide stability and prevent either set of legs from giving out when force is applied from one side.
Thanks for the feedback, always learning, I figured since the lets were so close and with the half lap joint, I was ok, they feel solid, but i'm sure there's rules to this! Thanks for the help and support!
I am purely a novice woodworker but it appears that these might be prone to tipping over. I think if I were to make them I would put a 10-15% bevel top and bottom of legs to give a bit of stability and add to the appearance.. Overall very nice project just had to add my 2 cents 😃
Thanks for the tip! I make all sorts of benches, and this, I wouldn't say it's tippy, but definitely more tippy than the ones where my legs go beyond the top surface, at an angle. That's why I went over sized on those, works nice, but yeah, it's not perfect. Thanks for watching!
