we live and learn david... dont ditch the oil just filter out the paint bits through an old net curtain or the like and give it a good wash until the water is as good as clear, bingo!!... yes raw metal vessels or plastic is the must any paint on the inside is a no no as the methoxide is very abrasive...ive now stepped up to 8 g of sodium hydroxiude per ltr and would recommend you doing the same as a much better result has been had... i will up date with better formulas, hope this helped : )

Thanks twilight,..well at one point I was going to chuck the whole lot (100 ltr) and phoned around environment agy,and even fire brigade ! (not emergency no.) ..but then I thought I would be stupid to chuck it, so I filterd it again and again.But I have discovered that the pump on processor ain't working.No air coming from anywhere i could see.Methanol I'm told is ingredient for paint stripper.So might have to look for a good tank...btw my sieve/filter tore at the last min. Try again tommorrow.

Thanks for the vid, and the information about the UK legislation, I live in the UK and I've been watching stuff like this online for about a year+ and was not sure if I could prepare it here and being within the law so now I know. Also I see some people use Potassium Hydroxide, if I use that is it 8gm too?.

I have Blended filtered weg waste oil with Regular Diesel .. 50:50 ..seems to be fine ..Will see tomorrow morning when cold. .I have Old Peugeot 205 GRD ..I use him in woods its great car..Some people say there is no need to convert engine on 205 grd .It will run straight on vegetable oil...Im tired of TAX-TAX -TAX ..So i Do some experiments.. can i use a strainer to take the food particles out of the used cooking oil? after that, I can convert it into a biodiesel the same steps as using a brand new oil?

Thanks... So may I point out that if it's highly toxic in a closed environment, it is highly toxic... Period... By diluting it in the atmosphere, we are not changing the damage it does to our world... We STILL need better energy storage... I believe that will come as we understand bio-mimicry and nano-tecnology better.

Can a titration kit be bought at a local store or it must be ordered online?

good of you to get back mar, yep im going to have a go.. i think that if you filter the oil say 1-2 microns it will be fine, as the main fuel filter will do the rest. would change the fuel filter every year though or maybe more often. will let you know how i get on and maybe you too. dont use chip shops oil is rank, use restaurants oil they change it more often, have a good one : )

if you want to be REALLY careful, you can buy a gas filter mask on amazon or ebay or even lowes for like 30-40 bucks. Should filter out any gas that may arise from the mixtures. Of course, should be in a well ventilated area in the first place.

yes as long as it is a vegetable oil, ive never heard of etona before... if its very dirty oil you will have to do a titration test which is demonstrated on you tube... i cut the avaerage and go with 8 mgs of sodium hydroxide which has never let me down, yep 30.000 miles and not a prob : )

Theres no engine modification needed, just change the oil filter as stated in my vid. As for engine maintenance its no different to road diesel.. hope that helps : )

Please tell me if the Diesel Engine in the Vehicle has to go under some modification before using this oil? Also, will there be more Engine maintenance issues compared to using normal Diesel?

for one hundred ltrs of bio you need 100 ltrs of filtered used veg oil heated upto 55c 20 ltrs of meth and 800g of costic mixed well until it has desolved = methoxide... well what went wrong is that you did not get a reaction... to reclaim the oil heat it up again until it has losend up again and give it a good wash and the oil will returned. it happens from time to time as ive had the same prob... once you have the oil back try the full process again..

very minimal my man, just filter with net a curtain or the like to get the bits out, then heat to 55 C, as simple as that... if the temp is cold then heat the oil to warm and filter as this will loosen the oil and make it thinner for filtering hope this helped.. : )

I would really have to question using an oil drum for mixing/processing that is painted inside.Hot fluid and paint just don't mix as a general rule.I have used paint stripper and the results on my first experiment (disaster) of making biofuel were similar to applying paint stripper to a surface.Areas bubbled up.I phoned the manufacturer,and he said this is the first time he had heard of a reaction like this.I phoned the prv seller and he assured me it was methanol he gave me.So was it wrong mix?

hello to you also sir : ) it can be stored for some time... theres a lot of disinformation going on by certain companies... i have stored it for several months with no problems, do filter it again though as a precaution, as i have heard that a fungal growth can occur but ive not had that problem, so as far as im concerned it stores well... hope that was of some help : )

I just wondering if you had the same problem with different batches of veg oil? Would you increase the amount of caustic soda? and methanol if the oil comes out thicker? Thanks mate

yes all you need is something to strain it with, i use a net curtain framed.... you will need to increase the sodium to the required amount into the methanol on average 8 mg to 250 mltrs... i will do a video later on how to get the right amount of sodium hydroxide needed in a tytration test : )

@david harris....these quantities he's using are different to mine ...I use 1 litre filtered DEWATERED veg oil to 200 ml of methanol to 3.5g lye (for new oil only) used oil has to be tested by titration to determine the amount of fatty acids in the oil...the ALKALI (lye) neutralises the fatty ACIDs and helps the veg oil react with the methanol....sounds like your oil had far too much water in it....if you ' wash' biodiesel incorrectly it will also turn to soap..read up on it, its great when it works right...do small batches first so if it goes tragically wrong you don't have to deal with large quantities of crap.

HELP !! ...oh dear 1twighlight makes it look so easy.Not his fault,but I have just had a complete disaster.I bought a biodiesel drum/pump that's sold by Yorkshire Co from ebay,that was advertised by a private individual as new.Collected it locally,and it appeared almost new.So I went to make 100 litres of biodisel from my own used catering oil.This morning I went to check the results,and pump the glycerin out.Then I noticed the paint inside the drum was peeling like pain-stripper had been used.

For 1ltr of not so heaverly used veg oil i will add 200 mltrs of methanol and 8 gms of sodium hydroxide. Its not spot on but does the job for me, if you want to get the sodium spot on then you will need to do a titration test which you can find on you tube for further info : )

Other than Industrial soaps, are there any other uses for the glycerin? My concern is three-fold... The poisonous nature of the process itself--you warn about Methoxide fumes--the storage of highly flammable and undoubtedly toxic Methanol, and the waste product--the glycerol. Is the waste product compostable at all. All the organics in the waste are useable in a garden IF nature can process it properly. I imagine a compost tea setup with air as oxygen and agitation, providing a bacterial soup.

Yesterday I put in 100 litres of used cooking oil heated to about 50c then added 15ltrs of methanol (or at least I hope it was methanol !! ),which was mixed with 600mg of caustic soda (about a cup and half).....The result is porridge. I followed roughly the vdo's instructions (I think).Where did I go wrong ?

Yes the process is highly toxic in a closed environment so must be well ventilated.. If the methanol is reclaimed from the glycerin then yes ive heard it can be composted and used also for sewage treatment. Not too sure how though...

Hi adumboy, yes you can use super market oil clean with less sodium but the methanol amount is the same 20 to 25%... finding methanol is not easy so you may have to do more homework on top of your study stuff, check online : ) sodium hydroxide is known commonly as costic soda and is not too hard to find on line or down your local hardware store or plumber centre... good luck : )

To all viewers, its is very important to make sure that the bio is fully washed and fully dry, as i have recently had probs in which the filter has clogged up... do not cut corners on these procedures, very important.. we live and learn : )

What do you mean by "unwashed" bio diesel?

if its over ten years old the fuel lines may be natural rubber which dont like bio too much... if so you may be better of changing the lines to a modern synthetic material... the rest is your home work : )

yes its surprising how lame the legislation is here, which is good. Potassion is not as pure as sodium hyd but devolves quicker. Not too sure as i do not use it but i would guess and only guess that it would be about 10gm. hope that helped a bit, good luck to you...
