Hi folks,

Was looking into your video to learn the uses of Birch bark the soap eases my psoriasis on my head bt I noticed your big black dog iv got one named Phillip that looks near identical to him your dog made me hit subscribe 😂 thanks for the useful information

Great job pal! You can use that Birch tar on axe handles, that said you would likely have to thin it down with some turpentine so it soaks in better. I have use Beck Olja for a few years here in Canada, I imagine what you would make is something similar. Beck Olja smells real strong, but it works well. I had some concerns when using it in a canoe trip though, it was very hot weather and a put some in my face as I was paddling down some mosquito infested creeks, by the end of the day my forehead was bright red and burning. Just to note though, I am fair skinned. I hope all is well with you in light of the current pandemic. Best Wishes, WS

Cheers buddy, yeah I mixed it with some food oil to make a bug repellent. I used it the following summer and it worked a treat. I still have some left over to help with the Midgies up here in Scotland during the summer. Hopefully the lockdown will be over by then. I hope you and yours are keeping well mate. Haha...those 'wee medges' I remember back in the 1980's camping with my two friends from Giffnock, Glasgow (Jardine Brothers), up in Glen Nevis...8pm every night the midges came out with a vengeance, I remember making scrambled eggs and by the time I was done it looked like I had over done the black pepper! We had to sleep with towels over our faces an we sweated like pigs :)

mostly pine, oak,hickory,maple,tulip poplar we have a lot more.i live in GA in the US . GA is in the south we have birch (river birch) but not paper birch .the states up North have paper birch.

Hi buddy, yeah, 3 parts birch oil to 5 parts olive oil. Yes I have, in 1978 lol !...used it to keep my leather sheath in check and mixed in a dab of bees wax

Do you really need to mix it with vegetables oil to make bug repellent or can you just as it is? Great vid btw

Hi mate, I was just following the recipe I found. It is quite runny, so the oil may be a way of thickening it so that it stays applied longer. Thanks for watching, take care 👍
