I never really watched someone play ones through the ranks I only ever watched high level 1v1s. This is much more helpful it really highlights how simple you can be and still win with positioning and consistency. I'm consistent with much more complex shots, but the problem is that people can save anything these days so this series highlights that just creating open net opportunities is much easier. Screw air dribbles. I'm gonna power slide cut all day now 🤣
Flakes I love your mindset and outlook on the game. It has heavily influenced my time with Rocket League. I enjoy the game more because of you, I think. So thanks for that.
I've followed most videos from Scrub and apJack for a while, but I think this series is probably the best of all 1v1 series I've seen. Very informative and entertaining.
I’ve been following this series and using it in my gameplay and I went from diamond 3 to gc1. It’s shocking how a lot of players are aggressive and just push while you can just easily change direction and juke the opponent
That’s crazy progress! My 3’s and 2’s rank are both C1, my ‘s rank has been D2-D3 this season. I tried utilizing this playstyle again after forgetting a month ago, I lost a few matches at first and fell to D2. Wasn’t worried, just focused on learning. Now I’m D3 div 4. Went on a 8 game winning streak or something crazy like that. I still can’t fake or powerslide cut even 1/4 as good as Flakes, but it works. Keeps me from overcommitting all the freaking time and outplaying myself with needless touches.
Okay this series is actually insane. I'm GC in nearly all the game modes and started playing 1s recently and I was absolute dog poop. I was stuck in D2. Just watched this over a couple days and I'm already nearly champ. This is crazy. I guess we were all doing too much before watching this lol.
idk about ones cos i’m terrible at it lol, but in diamond for twos an threes its a pretty even split between people who can and can’t half flip lol. See loads of players just reversing or backflipping 3x cos they can’t half flip
I didn't learn to half flip or wave dash until about champ 2. But half flipping especially is one of the easiest mechanics to learn and can be learned at any rank.
Can't lie, if someone galaxy brained me with the mechs of a silver I'd be pissed too. This whole series is the funniest shit ever. Seeing dudes who'd trash me in 1v1 get absolutely shit on by a dude who barely ever double jumps is crazy.
He's not smurfing. Smurfing is when you deliberately lose games to keep your mmr lower than it should be. Simply starting a new account ( which can happen for a variety of legitimate reasons ) and playing through the ranks is not smurfing.
Great series. Flakes positioning is superior in almost all interactions. Not sure how to train or learn this, but if you ever scrim with better players than you its frustrating because no mechanic beats positioning. If you watch close he has many positional advantages before he even fakes, powerslides, or hits to the side. He is always closer to the ball, positioned in an angle to the ball, and usually has goal/ point advantage. Always has boost. Best RL series going right now
The only thing "too mechanical" you do Flakes is know exactly where the ball will be and the saves you make (even though you aren't using advanced mechanics) are relatively difficult saves that you make look easy. Also, "ur so trash" from the first guy was HILARIOUS and your "reaction" to it was so good!
Bruh I’m trying to play like this, and I can feel it when I get scored on by overcommit / bad touch/ messed up powerslide cut. THE most frustrating thing ever when I see flakes effortlessly doing this. Mad respect tho
I've been watching and rewatching this series. I think at least 3 times now I started to play mainly 1v1 and understanding what you (flakes) teach! I am plat 3/ D1 in 1v1 and tbh I have the feeling the gameplay from my opponent is more like this kind of player you are playing. Ofc not all of my opponents but I have sometimes this kind of player that feel faster and after a sweaty game and I get a let's say more plat 3 player than it feels then more like the episode 8-9 where you were against diamonds. I'll try to implement more what has been shown in this episode than in the ones before. This might help some also, recognizing how the other players feel more like. Bc for example in some of my games the players do a lot of thing I see here or some just have higher mechanics, better recoveries, so that they play faster... Dunno just a thought out here. Tha ks flakes love you content
I run through Gold I and Plat I and it's crazy how much the game play is similar when you take an approach that's more technical over mechanical. Crazy.
I wanted to hate you for the 1st 2 minutes of the video, you know the whole Smurfing thing, but the educational aspect outweighed that fact. Nice video!
Technical ball taps and reading the ball is why this works. Your way advanced in those areas. Mechanics do not even matter when your so far ahead in those two areas.
@@FlakesRL as long as we get something from you I'll be happy. Honestly my favourite rocket league player/youtuber. You have the amazing ability to appear perfectly serious and extremely funny at the exact same time. Never change man. 😊
Benefited a lot from those vids, went from hardstuck p1, to plat 3 in an hour after binge watchin the series lol. Thanks for the content. Any vids out there that explain when is the appropiate time in a 1v1 to try going for something bit more advanced like an air dribble? I beat the shit out of plats with basic flicks but i wanna get into more advanced mechanics without givin up too many goals due to bad air play commits
They might score 1 or 2 air dribbles on you but if you pressure them, fake challenge, or drive challenge it will decrease the chance of them scoring on you because they will give the ball away and not get the setup right. If there’s an air dribble, try to get on backboard and save on goal line there are many backboard training packs
@@MSN539 nah bro i wanted to know when is the best time to go for an air dribble myself lol. Thanks for the tips anyway, luckily dont need to defend air dribbles yet plats cant do them
It’s pretty funny how in 2v2 my teammates will spam “Take the Shot!!!” if I don’t fully commit in a situation that could easily get us scored on if I go.
Okay now that I've really tried it, its a lot harder than it looks... (im gold 3) But hey, after 3 days of practicing powerslide cuts and reading the opponent better on defense, the ff wins are slowly coming in!
Don't expect too much in gold. Learn the game first and make sure you have fun. Maybe start taking those tips seriously when you get to diamond/champ and wanna get gc or something like that :)
To all those who read this: Make sure you engrave your gravestone with "Stay Hydrated as this really helps spread the good word of this Flakes' channel"
It's like watching me play RL nowdays xD I was gc back in 2017 but I rarely play anymore. I have no mechanics left really but I read the game and players fine. I play few games per year in c3 and doing fine there.
