I just use a metal mesh colander. It works great and the rocks don’t fall through. (It’s like using a metal screen)

I had the same experience with lachez pon and started making my own exactly like you did here! I added perlite and charcoal to mine in addition to fertilizer

I love how useful those soldering irons are!! I’m obsessed with mine. And I found additional “heads” or like attachments to make diff sized holes. Perfect for pots and semi-hydro! Like ten years ago, I even had a ceramic soldering iron for smoking with… 🍁 back when I did that, lol. So it was a “butane-free” high. Dumb. Lmao 🤣

Hahah I love burning stuff with it! I bought it with a wood burning kit back during the panorama 😂 comes in handy for plastic planters now 👍🏽

Yes, I love trying different substrates! Once I’m able to garden I’ll get back to soil but I enjoy Leca and pon in the house for sure 🤗🌱

Hey great video, thank you! I've only recently come across and absolutely fallen in love with glass containers to use as pots. The pon and/or Leca pebbles look amazing along with the beauty of the plant, IMHO. I've been collecting glass vessels but I've been careful not to choose shapes that narrow at the neck or anywhere else on the vessel, because of the difficulty of removing out of the old vessel when it comes to repotting time, especially if the plant has become root bound. It's so easy to cut through a plastic nursery pot but quite another to have to break a glass vessel! I will be making my own pon going forward, as a result of this video, so thank you so much once again. The colour of your Pon is so much more prettier than the Lechuza Pon. Only just came across your video, so new subbie here from London, UK 🇬🇧

Aw thank you so much Marcia! So happy to have you here experimenting and sharing with me 🫶🏽 I LOVE the look of Leca so much, and I’ve had to smash a few narrow neck jars in my journey 😅 had to learn the hard way! I haven’t made my own pon since, but you just reminded me how pretty is was when I made it! 🪴

@@aprilbrooks Thanks April 😊 Please don't tell me the enthusiasm for making your own goes🙈🤪 I have bought Leca and Lechuza Pon already to start the transitioning process of a few plants so will be using Pon (will be making my after that bag finishes) and Leca - at least that's the desire🙈

Thanks for the DIY for pon. I already have some lava rocks and I heard that with lechuza pon I wouldn't have to test my waters ph levels like with leca. I thinking of the best way for me to do semi hydroponics with the least effort and maximum growth. I was trying to find out how it worked out for you?

I found this extremely interesting as i am not familiar with PON, as with LECA. Which do you think is easier for maintenance? Which do you think you have had more success with? I dont know if i watch for your plants....or your nails. LOL I cant believe you do them yourself!!
@aprilbrooks
@aprilbrooks Год назад
Lol thank you! 💅🏽Honestly I prefer PON because it comes with fertilizer in it already (or you can add some) and it’s turned out to be a better growing medium for my plants. It is a LOT more expensive though lol which is why I use both! More plants have rotted in LECA for me in the past.

Every time I watch these videos for the pon recipe I’m shocked by all the people buying expensive bags on Amazon. Has nobody ever visited a nursery? I buy BIG bags of pumice for 7 dollars all the time. I sure as hell won’t be spending 24 dollars on lava rock. I’m sure I can find that cheap too.
