Testing out the various kitchen gadgets my girlfriend has in her house.
The reviews are honest comments after testing and not paid advertisements.
All products are bought and not gifted. All products are purchased from Taobao (Aliexpress) except for the Kitchenaid which was bought from departmental store in Singapore.
Below are her views on the products.
1) Kitchenaid stand mixer (mini)
Pricey but is worth the money if you bake a lot. Save you all the hard labour. Plus it looks pretty on the counter top.
My girlfriend bought the mini, sufficient for both of us.
2) Electric Pasta Maker
If you hate rolling out dough, this is great. Can even be used to make noodles.(not shown in this video)
The electric version is easier to manage than a manual hand cranking one which will challenge your coordination.
Down side is that it gets really hot and it is hard to wash.
3) Continuous Circle Cutter
It is really difficult to use and doesn’t cut through the thin dough. Even after practice, the cuts often ended up oval shaped. Not worth your money or time.
4) Single Dumpling Maker (Metal)
The metal version is definitely better than the plastic one we have tried. This comes in various size. The size in this video is the largest available. The success rate is high. It is easy and comfortable to use.
5) Circle cutter
It works really well. Just get it.
6) Multi Dumpling Maker
It works well enough. Occasionally one or two dumplings fall through the hole when closing the folds. Trick is to work fast and turn fast. Do one side at a time so that the dumplings do not “sink” in before closing.
The dumplings are really just bite size but yet the gadget is really bulky to store.
7) Hexagon Dumpling Maker
You will need to roll out 2 pieces of dough to the size of the maker. One below and one above the filling.
As rolling is required, the electric pasta maker cannot be used. Rolling it to the right size takes times.
There is little space for fillings. Perhaps we were doing it wrong but for all the work, it was not worth it. All the other gadgets were easier to use.
8) Multi Level Steamer
If you like steaming your food, get it. Bulky to store but it allows multiple cooking on one stove.
