I paint little fantasy creatures (mushroom gnomes and the like) and I really enjoy doing a yellow ochre wash under my paintings because like you said, it gives it a worn, aged look. I think it would be cool to see a painting with a sap green under painting and lots of reds/burgundies in the finished painting. I’m a sucker for that sort of colour scheme, and doing it in this way could be so cool!

I really love this layering process! I just got into adding in an under painting and its been really helpful! My color palletes make more sense and I also really like the "worn out" look.

I love this effect. The mauve muted purple tones that emerged and the warm tones contrast with the cools really make me feel something here. I think it would be really cool to do a green underpainting. I recently did a green under painting in some of my concept art doodles in my skech book and it was really fun and gave off a some nature vibes. It kind of let the subject hide in its environment. I also did a marker sketch with a random limited pallet and the under blocking was this beautiful pastel minty green and it was so surprising to me how well the yellow and red/browns layered over it and brought in dimension.

I love using warm pinks and corals for my underpaintings. They bring life and luminosity to my work.

Indanthrone blue is my favorite blue! I like it by itself and mixing with warm yellows and greens. It has this ocean-y quality that I think is really lovely.

I had a really low day today, and I really enjoyed watching this. It helped me calm down a bit. I like the really warm areas of light and the plants growing out of the shadows.

I love that in your pallete no matters that pans are "dirty" from other colors. Your style, on the contrary, thanks your colors are always so surprising.

I've been having a lot difficulties in loosening up with my brush strokes... But this definitely came in as a new perspective....

i've used under paintings with coloured pencils, lay down a watercolour layer and it does help a lot, and also tends to make you feel like you are being faster than you are with the pencils since there is less white space lol

I love your videos so much, I can't tell you how much I've learned from you and how much I love your style. Have you ever considered writing a book? I get awful migraines that keep me from screens and RU-vid, and I miss seeing your content all the time!

I always start with a loose underpaitnint because it helps me just start painting and not worry too much about specifics in the beginning. But I haven’t tried working without a reference, it’s a bold move but I’m willing to give it a try after seeing you try it out

Wow this came out so well! The yellow warm layer shows through just right. Thank you for the suggestions for loosening up! I would love to see this concept re-approached with a purple underlayer and a warmer over layer.

Ok here me out: try a nice bright but paler skin tone plus pastel pink and minty green. It gives off this faerie vibe that I love to use for making a character seem just a tad ethereal

Great art! As an Idea for another underpinning, what about a more granulating Color to have texture to build upon? I personally love the soft greys you can get with any orange-reddish Color mixed with more granulating ultramarines, but even earth tones like roman szmals caput mortum should be great for a earthy granulating approach
@crowquillgal1016
@crowquillgal1016 2 года назад
Do granulating colors lift more easily though? I get a lotta murky when mine go down first…

@@crowquillgal1016 I tend to work in very light washes so it worked on cotton paper, at least for me

Recently I saw someone use light grayish purple underlayer and then applied dark orange skintone. I wondered how it affects the image. I never tried it actually.
